The IRAM 30m telescope (located near Granada, Spain)

The Green Bank Radio Observatory of NRAO, located in West Virginia. The large telescope at left and far in the background is the new Green Bank Telescope (GBT), the largest fully steerable radio telescope in the world.

A closer view of the GBT.

A still closer view of the GBT (composite image generated from 16 individual images).

A view inside the reflecting dish of the GBT. The diameter is 100 meters, a little bigger than a football field. In the enlargement, you can see that the surface is made of many smaller panels, each of which can be adjusted to improve the efficiency of the telescope.
