Foundation Seminar 091-22 Problem Set #9

In order to do this assignment you need to read:

Watch segments from "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Terminator 2: Judgement Day"
Read : "The Cold Equations" in the book "Science Fiction Hall of Fame".

Problem #1: Think of one other film, not including the above two films, in which the dark forces of evil are related to order and coldness and the good forces are neither. Describe the in two sentences the protagonists and antagonists.

Problem #2: In the story "The Cold Equation" Marylin is a stowaway on a space-ship. This is a classic tragedy: The heroine defies a law she wasn't even aware of, and is therefore punished despite all the mitigating circumstances. This story may be an outcry against unusually cruel punishment. Who/what punishes marylin? Must we all abide by these laws according to the story? According to you?
