The goals of this assignment are to design, build, test, and documenta digital system. You can choose the digital system or you may consult with me to help you identify a system. You may work in groups of two or at most four individuals. Ideally, your design would be sold to a company for manufacturing. I recommend that you choose a system that interests you. In addition to demonstrating your working system to the lab instructor, you are required to hand in a technical report documenting yourdesign, a product specification data sheet for use by the marketing group, and a sales brochure.
Initially, we will need a project proposal describing your system and product specifications. This proposal will be reviewed by me to make sure that your project can be completed in the allotted time. Once your proposal is approved, your project proposal will be on the Web and shared with your classmates and other EE professors. The project proposal is due on Wednesday, October 1, 1997.
During the second half of the semester you will have the opportunity to provide Professor Wismer and/or me with progress reports and to orally present your progress to your classmates in lab or class. Your first draft will be due on Wendesday, November 19, 1997 . It will be reviewed for revisions by Professor Wismer or me. Once your revisions are completed, you will be provided with editorial comments. The final draft will be due on Wednesday, December 3, 1997. Ideally, it should be on the Web. Oral presentations will begin on Wednesday, December 3, 1997.
The written communication will count for 40% of your project grade, oral presentation will count for 20% of the project grade, and the design methodology, technical content, and creativity will count for 40% of the project grade.
