The goals of this assignment are to design, build, test, and documenta digital system. You can choose the digital system or you may consult with me to help you identify a system. You may work in groups of two or at most four individuals. Ideally, your design would be sold to a company for manufacturing. I recommend that you choose a system that interests you. In addition to demonstrating your working system to the class and guests, we require a technical report that documents your design, a product specification data sheet for use by the marketing group, and a sales brochure.
Initially, we will need a project proposal describing your system and product specifications. This proposal will be reviewed by me to make sure that your project can be completed in the allotted time. Once your proposal is approved, your project proposal will be on the Web and shared with your classmates and other EE professors. The project proposal is due on Monday, March 9, 1998.
During the second half of the semester you will have the opportunity to provide Professors Gum, Huang, and/or me with progress reports and to orally present your progress to your classmates in lab or class. Your first draft will be due on Friday, April 10, 1998 . It will be reviewed for revisions by Professors Gum, Huang, or me. The final draft will be due on Wednesday, Monday, April 27, 1998. Ideally, it should be on the Web. Oral presentations will begin on Monday, April 27, 1998.
The written communication will count for 40% of your project grade, oral presentation will count for 20% of the project grade, and the design methodology, technical content, and creativity will count for 40% of the project grade.
