Data Validation and a Broken Box

We are well on our way of collecting massive amounts of data. One of the biggest issues we have had to face is data validation; that is to say validating whether our sensors are actually working or not. Originally, the plan was to have 4 different sensors, so to have back-ups in case one of the other sensors failed. But, 2 out the 4 sensors were not quite up to standards, so we have had to rely on simply 2 sensors. Now, our data validation is done manually. Manually, you asked in disbelief? What exactly does that mean? It means that we have been FORCED to go and work out for periods of time. Here are some lovely pictures of the team in action!

Finally, on Tuesday the 21st, we arrived to validate some date, and saw that part of the sensor mounts were displaced, as shown in the picture below. Our solution, which we believe is actually stronger than it was previously, is the simplistic but ever powerful tool of duct tape…
