Thermodynamics of Systems with Nonintegrable Interactions

Erik Luijten and I wrote a paper concerned with straightening out some mistakes in the nonextensive thermodynamics literature. You can view either the preprint, cond-mat/0009031, or the online journal publication, Phys. Rev. E 63, 031108 (2001). Constantino Tsallis, who spearheaded the nonextensive thermodynamics movement, objected to our paper and submitted a comment to the preprint archive (cond-mat/0011022v1) and to Physical Review. We were asked by Physical Review to respond as non-anonymous referees to this comment. We debated for awhile whether to post our referee response on the cond-mat archive as a response to Tsallis's comment, but we chose instead simply to post it here.
