Rotisserie Draft 2002 - Full Draft

Rotisserie Index | Draft Rosters | Full Draft '02

Ben: Hi everyone. I think this is working, though I'm sure we'll find some bugs. Please report anything that seems bug-like. It's 4 minutes before March 18th in Turkey, and Levent is eager to begin picking, so let's begin.

Levent: shall I??

Ben: An explanation of the "Null" buttons: if, while trying to make a comment and not a pick, you accidently select a position or a team or accidently fill in a player name, then it's assumed you intended to make a pick, and you get sent back to finish the pick (or told you can't pick, if it's not your turn). You would then be caught in an endless loop without a way to "de-select" the team or position (you can at least erase the player name). Selecting "Null" is the same as de-selecting your pick.

Levent: still shows Ben picking

Levent: No, actually it is 12 minutes after midnite, so it is officially 18th for me :-))

Round 1 - Levent takes R. Johnson, Ari - P

Ben: Okay, now I will go to bed and make my pick tomorrow morning, because I haven't thought one iota about it yet.

Levent: So, Panthers win... and I go home... I guess I don't have to check in before Tuesday nite :-))

Toby: Wow, this sure is spiffified since I was last in the league. Nice work, Ben. And congrats on your Tigers. I had 'em picked into the sweet 16. And now that Cincy's gone . . .

Ben: I'm pretty happy about the Tigers finally getting it together (no, I'm not a closet Detroit fan, it's NCAA hoops). I have two words about Cincy being gone: Tyus Edny. Revenge could be sweet!

Round 1 - Ben takes Sosa, Chi - OF

Ben: This was a tough pick. I would have taken Johnson as the first pick, and then it was about a 3-way tie....

Levent: I was expecting you to take Helton... :-))

Ben: yeah, I was thinking about Helton a lot. I don't want to influence Onder's decision, but the third player I was considering is barry, barry good.

Levent: Then you would have made a barry barry bad mistake :-)) He does not tend to get injured often, but when he does, he does not come back easily... that is of course besides the fact that I do not like the guy...

Tom: It looks like we are all thinking along the same lines. I'm thinking that the three that I've been considering are the same that Ben was thinking about. Assuming Onder chooses one of the two players that have been mentioned (and that I'm thinking about), my decision will be barry easy, or (some very clever play on the words "todd" or "helton").

Ben: No helton back?

Tom: Ugh. How late is it in Germany now?

Ben: Not so late that I can't deliver more bad puns if prompted! We're 6 hours ahead of the east coast.

John: I can see one downside/upside of the slow draft is going to be the opportunity for lots of commenting on peoples picks. I usually find several minutes of abuse to more than sufficient when I screw up! There is no telling what effect two weeks of bad puns will have. Also, I may be picking for Mike. He is at the APS meeting and having trouble getting an internet connection.

Round 1 - Onder takes Helton, Col - 1B

Onder: Hi everyone, sorry about the delay. I've never picked this early in the draft. It's harder than I thought. I'll go with Helton for no specific reason.

Round 1 - Tom takes Bonds, SF - OF

Ladd: I'm here and will be making my pick directly. I have done absolutely NO preparation!

Round 1 - Ladd takes Schilling, Ari - P

Round 1 - Mike takes CJones, Atl - OF

Mike: I thought CHipper Jones had moved to a new position - but stranded at the March meeting, my baseball weekly listed him as third base. if this is incorrect, could someone please correct the position choice for me. I still want him no matter what position.

Onder: I think Chipper Jones is an OF now.

Round 1 - James takes Maddux, Atl - P

Levent: Mike, where is the March Meeting this year... I am hoping to be there next year...

Toby: Hey, do I get two consecutive picks in the first round like we used to do it?

Toby: (well, not in the first round, but you know what I mean--do we reverse direction the second time through, where I have the first pick)

Ben: Chipper is a left fielder this year. I'll "modify" Mike's pick. Toby, yes, you pick twice in a row (check out the "Next picks:" at the top).

Levent: John, remember... no Rockies pitchers... no Rockies pitchers...

Round 1 - John takes Kevin Brown, LA - P

John: It's a risk, but picking near the bottom you've got to take chance!

John: I am glad I checked in. I figured Toby couldn't pick until tonight so I wasn't really keeping tabs. Sorry if I held things up!

John: Levent - the March Meeting is in Indianapolis this year. You may be hoping to be at the March Meeting next year, but you shouldn't wish yourself to be in Indianapolis next year. It is one of the few cities that gets more exciting when 5,000 physicists come to town!

Toby: Don't worry, John, I'm not picking until this evening.

Levent: Boy, I was there in 1992... and yes... it was boring...

Ben: Hey, you're dissing my midwest. Indianapolis is a great place to do tectonic plate surfing.

Round 1 - Toby takes Mike Piazza, NY - C

Round 2 - Toby takes Shawn Green, LA - OF

Toby: Sigh . . . I hate my team already--a dodger and an ex-dodger . . .

Levent: No word against STL, especially some bars were quite friendly in 1996 :-))

Round 2 - John takes Abreu, Phi - OF

Round 2 - James takes Bagwell, Hou - 1B

James: Ironic isn't it Tob? My first pick was a Brave.

Toby: Heh, yeah, well, lucky you, I'd say. Yeah, I'd say. Yeah.

Round 2 - Mike takes Guerrero, Mon - OF

Round 2 - Ladd takes Gonzalez, Ari - OF

Round 2 - Tom takes Benitez, NY - P

Round 2 - Onder takes Alomar, NY - 2B

John: Levent-living in Pittsburgh and New Orleans you may not have picked up on the fact the us Easterners are real snobs when it comes to the Midwest and therefore they get a little defensive and all stick together! This of course makes it even better to poke fun at them for being boring, growing to much corn and not having topography. Oh, I almost left out the Hank Williams thing and having air you can't even see. Did I forget anything else Ben?

Toby: Yeah, 'cause Gaithersburg, MD is the center of all that's cool in this country. Or is it Lewisburg, PA? I forget.

John: There's a New Yorker talking! Actually if there is town outside of Utah that is more boring than Gaithersburg, I haven't heard of it. However there is now a Barnes and Nobel at the new mall - so Gaithersburg now has a cultural landmark! Levent - Easterns may be snobs, but any New Yorker knows that there is only about 1 square mile (if that) on the southern end of Manhattan that matters and the rest of the world is just here to grow them food and send them oil and the occasional taxi. ACtually I was just hoping to provoke a draft pick before the Europeans went to bed. Oh well.

Toby: Heh, I'm actually a big fan of Minneapolis, despite it's being in the midwest.

Levent: Sorry John, I tried to stay here as much as I could, but there was an important soccer game on TV, and had to leave... :-)) But wherever you are from... Indianapolis was boring except for two days of the year...

Ben: As someone I know from the state once said, people in Indiana do 3 things: shoot hoops, shoot guns, and shoot pool. And lest you get the impression that important people don't come from the midwest, consider this: both Sam Walton and Kenneth Lay went to my high school! (I'm surprised the mainstream media haven't picked this up. No, I'm not.) Evidently there were some courses offered that I didn't know about.

Ben: And John, your topography comment makes it clear that you haven't been to the Ozarks in southern Missouri, which are actually quite beautiful if you can avoid Branson. Anyone who visited would realize that the midwest has topography, and instead would probably comment on the sibling marriages...

Round 2 - Ben takes Matt Morris, StL - P

Ben: This pick was tough, because I know all of the 6 players I was looking at will be gone by the time I pick again. Sigh.

Round 2 - Levent takes T. Hoffman, SD - P

John: Hey, I am married to a Hoosier! Although I must confess I have yet to win a game of HORSE, and not for lack of trying. Of course I wouldn't throw stones if I weren't raised in the glass house of all states . . .

Round 3 - Onder takes Nen, SF - P

Round 3 - Tom takes Walker, Col - OF

Round 3 - Ladd takes Smoltz, Atl - P

Round 3 - Mike takes Wade Miller, Hou - P

Mike: Mike is on the way to the airport but he entrusted me with his pick.

John: I guess I should have posted the message under my own name!

Round 3 - James takes Wood, Chi - P

Levent: A timing question for Toby, when is the earliest time you would be able to take your pick during the day?? The reason why I am asking the question is that I can stay here a little longer if necessary...

Round 3 - John takes Juan Pierre, Col - OF

John: I agree with Ben it is a lot harder when you have the time to think about all the players your not going to get.

Toby: I'm picking when I get home at around 7:30-8:00 or so . . . Can't really study my players at work . . .

Round 3 - Toby takes Vazquez, Mon - P

Round 3 - Levent takes Berkman, Hou - OF

Levent: Toby, then I can safely take my pick in the morning...

Levent: Oops, I meant Hou...

Round 3 - Ben takes J.D. Drew, StL - OF

Round 4 - Tom takes Oswalt, Hou - P

Round 4 - Ladd takes Griffey Jr., Cin - OF

Tom: I was wondering how long it would take for someone to grab Griffey. I was considering him pretty strongly in Round 3 (but Walker was still available at the time).

Ben: Funny, I was deciding between Griffey, Drew, Oswalt, and 2 other players ... I'm curious whether Mike will take one of them.

Tom: I have a pretty good guess who one of the other 2 players are that you are referring to -- I had a hard time choosing between Oswalt and this other player.

James: He'd better not take the one I want.

John: Griffey was on Mike's short list last round so he will probably be a little upset when he sees how close he came, but his other player is still available. I am tempted to pick for him but he is back at Irvine today and may have changed his mind. I was actively considering 7 players, barring a surprise from Mike at most two will remain.

Round 4 - Mike takes Klesko, SD - OF

Mike: Wow - all this speculation - I should have waited even longer to pick. It was pretty amazing yesterday at the March meeting. (I told this to John already) but you know you are old when you show up at the exhibition room to get email and when the doors open 50 - 100 young grad students stampede through the room to be first - I didn't even bother!

Round 4 - James takes Sheffield, Atl - OF

James: There, I have two Braves in my first 4 picks. Take that Toby.

James: One more thing, I'm pretty sure Klesko is in the outfield this year, Nevin is playing first base for the Pods.

Ladd: This board is really hopping today! I say Klesko's an OF too. Go Mizzou!

Ben: Klesko is most definitely an outfielder. Burroughs is playing 3rd for SD, so Nevin moved to 1st, and Klesko moved to OF (the Pads moved their two best players for a rookie!). I'll adjust Mike's pick since it probably makes little difference to him; not like he was expecting to get a shortstop or something. James took one of my two, Mike didn't.

Ben: Indeed, go Mizzou! Crush those Bruins!

John: Nevin is on my short list, so can we clear this up.

Ben: I think our posts might have coincided, John. Nevin is playing 1st. No doubt about it.

James: I'll bet anyone a dollar I know who Ben wants.

Mike: This is clearly going to be an interesting year. Is it a really bad sign when you draft a 3rd baseman and 1st baseman in the first 4 rounds and only end up with outfielders?

James: I guess it depends on how well they hit, Mike.

Levent: dear friends in the US... when does Pitt play today??

James: It looks like Pitt plays at 9:55 PM EST.

Round 4 - John takes Nevin, SD - 1B

Levent: Thanks... then I need to come in at 5am to listen to the game... :-))

Toby: Darn you, James. Darn you to heck.

Round 4 - Toby takes Pujols, StL - 3B

Toby: Not entirely sure where Pujols will qualify. Y'all let me know if third is ok.

Ben: La Russa has made it clear that he intends to play Pujols at 3rd. Way to go Tigers!

Round 4 - Levent takes Giles, Pit - OF

Toby: Yeah Hoosiers! Go Hoosiers! Yeah Hoosiers! Go Hoosiers!!

Toby: (Careful, Ben, ames-Jay is istening-lay . . .)

Round 4 - Ben takes Wagner, Hou - P

Ben: Was? Ich verstehe nicht, Toby. Meinst Du, dass James eine Waschlappen ist?

Toby: James ist ein UCLA-fan, nicht var? Oder ist James ein USC-fan? (Good idea, Ben, James will never understand this . . .)

Ben: Ich war ironisch. Alle UCLA fans sind Waschlappen, nicht wahr? (Oops, code names. That's it. Ben was just my code name. This is really Levent.)

Ben: Sehr lustig, wirklich, sehr sehr lustig :-))

John: See, Indiana is getting more popular all the time! With Knight gone even I can be happy about them winning.

Levent: Folks, as far as I know, Onder is having a surgery today, so it might be a little while before he can take his pick.

James: I know enough German to know I'm a USC fan, not that its anything to brag about these days. If anything looks really suspicious I can send it to Dave and get it translated, and he is a UCLA fan.

Ben: Levent's right - I checked the old email and Onder had said the 22nd was his surgery day. So probably the draft is done for the day and perhaps the weekend. Good luck Onder and speedy recovery!

Toby: Uh-oh Ben, you're *bust-ed* !!!

Levent: No, Onder said that he should be up the same day or so...

Tom: I'm gonna be on the road myself this weekend -- we're doing a road trip to DC with the new baby (first opportunity for the grandparents to see the kid). I'll try to check the board tomorrow and Sunday to see if I'm up for a draft.

John: I'll alert the mayor that the city is having a visitor this weekend. You know tourism has dropped off a bit when you are begging Mike Tyson to visit. It should be a good weekend for the cherry blossoms if you have the chance Tom.

Ben: Does DC have a mayor again? That's progress....

John: They not only have one, he not even in jail! There are rumors that Marion Barry is going to run for city council however. You just can't keep a good felon down.

Onder: The surgery went well yesterday but afterwards I was in more pain than I thought. They injected some sort of pain killer in my thigh and it worked like magic till 2:30 am this morning when the pain came back. Since then I'm taking Vicodin, and it's pretty good. I'll take my pick in a few minutes.

Round 4 - Onder takes Lieber, Chi - P

Round 5 - Ladd takes Rolen, Phi - 3B

Round 5 - Mike takes Russ Ortiz, SF - P

Mike: I just noticed that I wasn't thinking and typed Russ Ortiz's name as it was listed where I was looking: ORtiz, Russ and so the pick is showing on the roster as Russ - maybe Ben can change that so it is clear to everyone? thanks

Round 5 - James takes Glavine, Atl - P

James: Woohoo, go Braves! I'm going to start saying Y'all.

Ben: Sorry Mike, Ortiz is an outfielder this year. I'll change your pick....

Round 5 - John takes Isringhausen, StL - P

John: On Vicadin I am surprised Onder didn't pick Vida Blue. Good luck with your recovery Onder.

Levent: If we can complete this round today our speed will be five rounds a week which we can keep in mind for next year... who is around today??? (besides John :-))

Round 5 - Toby takes Jose Mesa, Phi - P

Round 5 - Levent takes AJones, Atl - OF

Toby: Hey James, I'll give you 5 bucks to trade teams . . .

Onder: I'm here... Can't move anyway so what better to do than surf the web, and order stuff from Amazon. BTW if any of you guys are in the market for a good portable mp3/CD player I'll recommend the Aiwa XPMP3 Portable MP3-CD Player/Car Kit/Dot Matrix Display/Anti-Skip for $79.88 + 6.76 shipping. I've been reading reviews and checking prices for more than a month and this seems to be a good one for the price. Of course I'm on Vicodin so keep that in mind... :)

James: I'm flattered Tody, and I'd go for it except Piazza is a putz. Y'all.

Mike: Damn - Ortiz is in the outfield too! Isn't anyone playing where they played last year!!! :)

Round 5 - Ben takes Jim Edmonds, StL - OF

Round 5 - Onder takes Floyd, Fla - OF

Round 5 - Tom takes Casey, Cin - 1B

Ben: I spent nearly an hour last night agonizing between Edmonds, Rolen, and another player. Then I noticed that Ladd already took Rolen...

Levent: Odd, when I looked at my sheet, I said, now Ben is going to take Edmonds, and you did...

Ben: So what's odd about that? It's too early to take Vina...

Ben: Speaking of the Cardinals, it turns out just yesterday that Pujols has been moved back to LF (after La Russa made it very clear that he would play Pujols at 3rd). I think the situation is ambiguous enough that both Pujols and Placido Polanco are available as OF and 3B. I assume Toby wants to keep Pujols at 3rd. Is that right?

Round 6 - Mike takes Kile, StL - P

Mike: Probably Kile has been moved to LF and Pujols is now pitching or something like that!

Levent: No, he has just been moved to DL, but, hey, DL is better than LF...

Onder: I really wanted Edmonds and almost cried when Ben took him...

Toby: Yeah, I'd like to keep Pujols at 3rd if folks are down with that.

Round 6 - James takes Sexson, Mil - 1B

James: Is it just me? Waiting a day for each pick is *killing* me.

James: Note, I wanted Sexson as the outer infielder but there is no button.

Levent: But once again, Ben saves the day...

Onder: Looks like Ben's code works well if you already have one 1B and the second one picked will be moved to the Out position. This means you can't pick an in/out player without drafting your original infielders first. I think it should work fine. I don't know why someone would want to do it the other way but what do I know...

Levent: Ben, the program sends an email if it is our pick, but can it also send an email after any pick?? This way we would not have to load the page to see where the draft is...

Round 6 - John takes Rollins, Phi - SS

John: James,it hurts even more when Kile and Sexson go the two picks before you.

James: I symapthize John, and thank you for putting me out of my misery re: Rollins.

Round 6 - Toby takes Aurilia, SF - SS

Mike: I actually don't mind the slow draft - I am basically slow anyway and since I don't know what position anyone plays, I clearly need a whole day to make a pick. Just a heads up - I won't be able to draft until after 8 pm west coast time tomorrow. But, since I am last in round 7, I don't expect that to be a problem.

Round 6 - Levent takes Kendall, Pit - C

Ben: Regarding programming details: Onder is right, the program will take any extra infielders and assign them as either your outside or inside infielder. There is no meaningful distinction between the first and second selected 1B anyway: either can be replaced by a 1B or a 3B. And remembering to select a special category was a source of many errors last time. I should warn you, though, that the program doesn't check whether you have only 9 pitchers, only 2 catchers, etc. You still need to fill the roster correctly.

Ben: Levent: I can set it up so that you get an email after each pick. I'm not sure everyone wants this feature though - anyone who does, post or email a request.

Round 6 - Ben takes Josh Beckett, Fla - P

Ben: Levent: I tried to set it up but I've got some bug that doesn't make sense to me, and it doesn't work (programming with perl is a kind of love/hate thing, and lately I've been hating it). When I have more time I'll try again.

Toby: Hey Ben, I'd actually prefer not to get email every pick, if that's easy to set up. Thanks!

Ben: I'll only set up the "email every pick" for those who specifically request it (and then only if I figure out how to do it).

Round 6 - Onder takes Ramirez, Pit - 3B

Round 6 - Tom takes Cedeno, NY - OF

Ladd: Tom, I don't like you very much right now! I've been waiting on Cedeno for sixteen picks and then you take him at the last possible moment.

Round 6 - Ladd takes Furcal, Atl - SS

Round 7 - James takes Alou, Chi - OF

Toby: Well Ladd, I'm not a big fan of you right now, either :-)

Ladd: Aww Toby. You're just saying that to make me feel better :)

Tom: Always glad to hear when my picks are making other people mad -- I was actually a little surprised that Cedeno was still available and was beginning to wonder if he was injured or something. (Furcal was my back-up in case Cedeno was taken before me as well.)

Ben: I thought long and hard between Beckett and Cedeno. Okay, maybe not long, but at least hard. Looks like board consensus says I blew it.

James: FWIW I would have taken Beckett if he were available.

Round 7 - John takes Leiter, NY - P

John: Yeah, I would have prefered Beckett (then and now), of course I don't need the SB anymore

Round 7 - Toby takes Eric Young, Mil - 2B

Round 7 - Levent takes Dunn, Cin - OF

Ben: Levent! You kept me waiting all day and then you took my pick!! This is going to take a few minutes....

Round 7 - Ben takes Luis Castillo, Fla - 2B

Levent: I love you too...

John: Ben - you waited all day and didn't have a second choice?

James: Good one John.

Ben: I tried to get a 2nd choice, but it was hard to decide. And my first choice was clear cut enough that I decided not to spend time deciding the 2nd choice unless it was necessary...

Round 7 - Onder takes Kim, Ari - P

Round 7 - Tom takes Duca, LA - C

Tom: Sorry about the delay -- Levent took my first choice and Onder took my backup. (That seems to be happening a lot today.)

Round 7 - Ladd takes Wilson, Fla - OF

Round 7 - Mike takes McGriff, Chi - 1B

Round 8 - John takes Alfonzo, NY - 3B

John: The pressure of picking first this round really got to me. Ben, you'll see what this is like in another few rounds!

James: Isn't Alfonzo playing 3rd this year?

Ladd: Alfonzo is definitely at third. The Mets have Alomar at second.

Round 8 - Toby takes Mo Vaughn, NY - 1B

Mike: Just something to consider for future years - don't most leagues do something like if a person played a position last year they qualify for that position this year until they actually play a certain number of games at a new position during the season? This would seemd to solve the problem those of us have who keep picking people at last years position. On the other hand, if the clued in people want to keep correcting the rest of us, that is fine by me too. Just a thought.

Ben: John: I know Levent won't be able to make his pick until 9:00 EST at the earliest. Ideally Levent and I should wait until you've confirmed that you want Alfonzo at 3rd (he really should only be available at 3rd, there's no way he's taking Alomar's job). If you'd rather substitute a non-Mo Vaughn player for Alfonzo, go ahead.

Toby: D'oh! Guess I should have waited for the Alfonzo position issue to be resolved before picking. Sorry about that. Man, I am so out of the scene: I only knew that Mo Vaughn was in the National League because yesterday's copy of Time Out NY had him on the cover in a Mets uniform . . .

Ben: Mike - I don't like this idea. We have been well served by our method (basically honest attempt to put the player where they play, with some acknowledgment of uncertainties). This works a lot better than some of the more literal rules I've seen in other leagues, and I'd like to keep it. For the record, since it's an important issue, I switched your Chipper Jones pick to the outfield because you said it was okay. I switched Klesko without asking you because OF and 1B are essentially equal positions for hitting and it was early in the draft, so I didn't think you'd object (correct me if I'm wrong). But moving a middle infielder to 3B, or a 3B to the OF or some such I think should be checked with the person making the pick.

John: That's what I get for reading magazines that were written in December. Its certainly less appealing but I'll keep Alfonzo at third. I need my day off from the draft to get some work done!

Ladd: As of about 2pm CST today I will be incommunicado until at least mid-afternoon tomorrow and possibly longer ( going out of town ). Ben - what is the status on the draft anyway. To my understanding several people had issues with this weekend and we were going to cut the rolling draft off and just finish it all on Sunday the 7th. I'll do whatever, just wanted to let everyone know I'll be unavailable for a bit.

Levent: I just came in... pick in a few minutes...

Round 8 - Levent takes Kent, SF - 2B

Levent: I am available from today till Tuesday 4am EST, then I am flying to Germany... there I can check this page if necessary starting Wednesday morning... Friday afternoon/evening I am flying to UK, there I am free to check the page...

Round 8 - Ben takes Jose Vidro, Mon - 2B

Ben: As of this pick, I'm out of town until late Monday night (midday for the rest of you). We had originally planned to get as far as possible this week and then wait until April 7th. However, we can keep plugging away if people want to. I'll check the board Monday night, and if it's my pick, I'll make one. I'm gone again 4th-6th.

Toby: Personally, I like the rolling draft and I'm happy to continue it until next Sunday. The more we can get out of the way before then the better, I'd say. Between Tuesday and next Sunday we should be able to pick off another 5 rounds or so.

John: I am happy to keep rolling. I'll be in NJ this weekend, but I get skipped this round so it sounds like you don't need me until Tuesday!

Levent: If people can give me a short list of players, I can pick for them to keep the draft rolling...

Mike: Ben - just to clarify, I have no problem with where any of my players ended up or with the way we do things. It just seemed with the rolling draft, there might be some useful tweaking we can do to get people in the right position before the pick is made - maybe I am just reading the wrong resources (for instance, baseball weekly is clearly geared to leagues with rules about having to actually have played at a position), and some education on my part is all that is needed. Also, it seems like there is no need to formally shut down the draft, we do what we can and finish on the 7th.

Round 8 - Onder takes Womack, Ari - SS

Onder: The 7th is fine for me if you guys want to finish the draft that day and I'm also in favor of keeping the the rolling draft.

Round 8 - Tom takes Biggio, Hou - 2B

Round 8 - Ladd takes Hidalgo, Hou - OF

Ben: I might be able to get another pick in tomorrow before I leave (about noon tomorrow). I'll check the board before I leave.

Levent: Ben, if we finish 8th today, I will come in at around 11am your time...

Ben: Okay Levent, thanks for the heads up. And here's news hot from the Cardinal-insider world: Bud Smith is alleged to have been sent to AAA to start the season. I have to remember that La Russa is kind to animals to subdue the urge to lash out with invectives...

Round 8 - Mike takes Adrian Beltre, LA - 3B

Round 8 - James takes Penny, Fla - P

Round 9 - Toby takes Vinny Castilla, Atl - 3B

Round 9 - Levent takes Graves, Cin - P

Ben: Last round I was trying to choose between Vidro and Graves. I was so happy that Graves was making it to the next round....

Round 9 - Ben takes Hideo Nomo, LA - P

Levent: pls tell me beforehand which player you want, and then I choose the other one and leave the player for you :-))

Toby: How come no one ever says "Damnit, Toby, I was *dying* to get Rich Aurilia and now you took him from me" ? Not a good sign if no one is ever jealous of your pick :)

John: Well Toby, for one thing it's because you picked Vinny Castilla.

James: Damn Tody, I was *dying* to get Vinny Castilla, in the 19th round.

Toby: OK, wiseguys. Have fun taking advantage of someone who hasn't been watching baseball for a couple of years. Big fun. Congratulations. You must feel pretty big and tough. Big deal. Fine. I'm just going to sit over here and have a tea party with my team and enjoy tea and biscuits and ices and you're not invited. "Another piece of coffee cake, Vinny?" "Why thank you, Toby, but I think Shawn would like the last piece." "No, Vinny, I'm full. Just don't give it to John or Jades because we don't like them." "Ok, I'll just throw it away". So there.

James: You're right Tob, I apoligize. I *am* jealous of your team's impeccable manners.

Round 9 - Onder takes Ishii, LA - P

Onder: Oops! That should be "Ishii" not Kazuhisa. Ben, can you please change it?

Round 9 - Tom takes Millwood, Atl - P

Mike: Toby: By the way, I would like to point out that this year I have so far avoided any Braves pitchers. This is not because I feel this would be a bad pick, but it is in kindness to you. So far, every Brave pitcher I have ever drafted has self destructed (Millwood last year, and has anyone heard of Avery??)

James: So whats the deal with drafting guys on the DL? Last I remember we could draft them but couldn't replace them for a month. Does anyone remember different?

Mike: James is correct - you can draft someone on the DL but can not replace them for a certain time frame. I defer to Ben on what that time frame is, though a month sounds right.

Mike: AS I recall from the discussion we are entering a slow period - just for the record, I will be out of contact from Monday morning until Wed. afternoon.

Levent: Next week from Wednesday-Friday I will be in a computer training, and even though there will be a computer in front of me at all times, I don't know how much time I will be able to spend on the draft, but I will try...

Round 9 - Ladd takes Williams, StL - P

Round 9 - Mike takes Edgar Renteria, StL - SS

Round 9 - James takes Ward, Hou - OF

Round 9 - John takes Geoff Jenkins, Mil - OF

John: Apparently my instinct that I should take a middle infielder in round 8 was on. Oh well, I didn't expect Jenkins would still be here. So for once, ha, no one picked the guy I wanted!

Round 10 - Levent takes Cabrera, Mon - SS

Ben: Jenkins was a good pick, John. I was almost ready to take him last round, and I was thrilled that I might get him anyway. Until you picked, that is. And Toby, I'm sure one of your picks was a great pick, I just didn't have time to go through looking for it.

Round 10 - Ben takes Scott Strickland, Mon - P

Round 10 - Onder takes Glanville, Phi - OF

Levent: OK guys, I am off to Germany... I am hoping to be back online on Wednesday and I will be picking last in round 11 that might even be early for my turn.

Round 10 - Tom takes Alfonseca, Chi - P

Round 10 - Ladd takes Jordan, LA - OF

James: I don't know John, I think you should have wanted Ward.

John: It very possible that I should have wanted Ward, but I didn't. BTW was that Vinny from the tea party that hit the home run yesterday?

James: Yeah, I noticed that too. I guess Toby gets the last laugh, as usual.

Toby: :-) *And* we get tea and biscuits and ices . . .

Levent: I am online in Regensburg now :-)) fighting with a French keyboard machine...

Ben: I will check the board tomorrow morning before I leave for Berlin in case I can make one more pick. Then I am gone until Sunday. We should agree on a time to start Sunday. As I recall, Mike was the limiting factor - can you tell us when to start, Mike.

James: I thought we agreed on 11 AM PDT Sunday.

Ben: Okay, let's take that as official, and let Mike (or anyone) speak up if that doesn't work. By the way, the 'D' of PDT is important. We already switched on this side of the Atlantic, but I gather you're telling me you will have switched also by Sunday. Good to know.

Tom: In fact, Sunday IS the day that we switch over here.

Round 10 - Mike takes Mark Kotsay, SD - OF

Mike: 11 am PDT is still fine with me. If I follow the conversation correctly, we will draft until Ben's turn and then start in on Sun. untill it is finished?

Tom: Just out of curiosity: do the games this week count? Let's say, that theoretically, one of us had picked a player who, hypothetically, hit 4 homeruns during the first two games. Does this figure into the tally?

Ben: Games do count this week. Okay, see you Sunday!

Round 10 - James takes Burnett, Fla - P

Levent: Ben, when you come back pls answer this: 11am PDT means 7pm in UK, right?

Round 10 - John takes Ben Sheets, Mil - P

Ben: Yes Levent, 11 AM in California is 7 PM in the UK.

Ben: I just found out my second closer, Strickland, was traded to the Mets yesterday, where he'll be primarily ironing shirts for Benetiz. Baseball is cruel! A 10th round pick turned into a wasted roster spot.

Toby: Ouch, Ladd, my apologize for my man smoltzy. That's gotta hurt :-).

Ladd: Thanks for the apology Toby. Gee, if he can throw 23 consecutive scoreless innings he will ALMOST have his ERA down to 3!

Round 10 - Toby takes Steve Finley, Ari - OF

Toby: So who all is out there already, other than Ladd and myself? I don't suppose there's any chat-roomy thing that you guys have going on where we don't have to keep hitting refresh to see the latest smack-talk.

Toby: Oh, wait, we're doing this 11 am pdt. I'm such an idiot. Fine. I'll go back to sleep now. Idiot.

Levent: I am in.

James: Take me out to the ball game, Take me out to the crowds...

Round 11 - Ben takes Jeromy Burnitz, NY - OF

John: Apparently, Toby has inherited his mother's time zone problem.

Ladd: I'm here. I'll be running around a bit trying to get my wife off to her tennis match and my two year old down for her nap. Everything should be just fine as long as nobody takes any of the players I want!

John: This is starting to hurt already. BTW James I was dead sure I was picking Burnett.

Ben: I'm really bummed about this Strickland thing. There's a lot of luck in Rotisserie, but not usually DURING the draft. Sigh. Ladd, I'll trade you Strickland for Smoltz. I'll even give you $5.

Onder: I'm here too. 11am pdt is 1pm central so we should get going in a few minutes, right?

John: If Onder is still stoned we may have to wait an hour.

Toby: I blame the lack of clear directions. No one said specifically 2 PM EDT. You can see my confusion.

James: Well John I was losing sleep over Burnett/Sheets.

Mike: Hi I am here - I am drafting from home, so I don't know how this will go. Already, my primary connect number was down. Hence the delay. John - if I have real troubles, where are you so I can call? Also, if necessary, my email at home is dennin@att.net

Ben: Note about the draft program: as long as you don't leave the draft page, your name will remain selected. So you might want to keep one browser window always on this page and use other windows for the draft rosters, e.g.

John: Fortunately Toby, the international date line does run between NY and CA!

Toby: :-)

Tom: By the way, Ben, have you built in an automatic humiliation routine for anyone who tries to pick a player that is already drafted?

John: I am in at work (don't tell) (301) 975-5495.

Mike: Is there a reason Onder is not picking, are we waiting for some signal to start, my browser not updating, or his just thinking?

Ben: No Tom, but wait to see what happens when you pick Mike Matheny.

Round 11 - Onder takes Astacio, NY - P

James: I missed you guys whanking about injuries. I've already got two guys on the DL. We should have a suplemental draft for the IR.

Tom: Curses!!! I just had Astacio queued up!! And that was after having had Burnitz queued up!!!

Ben: I'm not whanking about an injury. I'm whanking about a good closer having all the saves ripped off his stat sheet by a stupid trade.

James: Sorry, my bad.

Ladd: I've got one body on the IR already, so I'm good with a supplemental after we finish the 23rd round. Whoever has Maddux ( I'm guessing that's you James ) goes first. My IR spot is for Woody Williams ( 9th round ).

Mike: Interesting that with so much time, people only had one or two picks handy - would have thought this 11th round would move a bit faster!

Ben: I thought about putting in a time counter, so that we could have stats on everyone's pick time. We could even do it like chess, where you have some total number of minutes to use for the draft...

Round 11 - Tom takes Dempster, Fla - P

Toby: Man, Mike, nag nag nag. Two comments, and both about how much time it's taking. You'd better be pretty prompt for the next few rounds !!!

Mike: Right now I can comment on people's speed - I have about an hour until Melissa wakes up, and then my draft rate might drop as it is just me and her today.

James: I'd vote for that. Or have like a 24 second clock and if you don't make your selection in time you get a random player.

Round 11 - Ladd takes Williams, Pit - P

Round 11 - Mike takes Gagne, LA - P

Toby: speedy . . .

Mike: The only problem with the clock is having to remember to hit refresh!

Round 11 - James takes Burrell, Phi - OF

Toby: allright John, no whammy, no whammy . . .

James: I thnk the solution for the "refresh problem" is for Ben to upgrade the site to Java or Flash or something hitech like that. (I'm not serious).

James: I thnk the solution for the "refresh problem" is for Ben to upgrade the site to Java or Flash or something hitech like that. (I'm not serious).

Round 11 - John takes Rusch, Mil - P

Round 11 - Toby takes Wolf, Phi - P

John: Of course he is with MIL

Round 11 - Levent takes Lee, Fla - 1B

Round 12 - Onder takes Lopez, Atl - C

Round 12 - Tom takes Burroughs, SD - 3B

Ladd: Give me a minute. I'm deciding between two players.

Ben: The nice thing about drafting from home is that you can go pour yourself a beer during your skip round. The nice thing bout home being in Germany is that its a German beer. Even so, it just sucks to watch all your targets get picked.

Mike: Ben - I have learned that the important thing is not to have goals. Heck, any pitcher I pick will have his career ruined, and batters will be injured during the month I pay no attention. So what does it matter, especially if your getting to drink German beer!

Round 12 - Ladd takes Ochoa, Mil - OF

Round 12 - Mike takes Dotel, Hou - P

Round 12 - James takes Sanders, SF - OF

Ladd: Sanders was the other player I was considering.

Ben: I was choosing between Burnitz and Sanders too, for that matter.

James: There you go, I assume since I took him he will be on the DL with the rest of my team in a couple days.

Round 12 - John takes Millar, Fla - OF

Round 12 - Toby takes Duckworth, Phi - P

Round 12 - Levent takes Ashby, LA - P

Round 12 - Ben takes Juan Uribe, Col - SS

Ben: I was wondering what would happen with Ashby

Round 13 - Tom takes Encarnacion, Cin - OF

Mike: Hey Toby - since you complain no one wants your pitchers, I should let you know Duckworth was on my list to pick next. This probably means you just saved his career by getting him before me.

Round 13 - Ladd takes Marquis, Atl - P

Toby: Whew, man, *finally* someone wants someone of mine. I feel good.

Ladd: I'll second Mike's comment. I had Duckworth and then Ashby and then I went scrambling for Marquis.

Round 13 - Mike takes Person, Phi - P

Round 13 - James takes Hernandez, Hou - P

Round 13 - John takes Walker, Cin - 2B

Mike: James - you probably got the better of the two even though I went first - I just couldn't make up my mind, and I am usually wrong on pitchers. Though given your team so far, Hernandez will probably just get hurt and Person will suck.

Round 13 - Toby takes Jimenez, Col - P

Ben: Now you did it Toby. Damn you!

Round 13 - Levent takes Patterson, Chi - OF

Toby: :-), y'all are sweet.

Round 13 - Ben takes Aaron Boone, Cin - 3B

Round 13 - Onder takes Hollandsworth, Col - OF

Round 14 - Ladd takes DeShields, Chi - 2B

Round 14 - Mike takes Rodriguez, SF - P

Round 14 - James takes Trammell, SD - OF

James: Dang Mike, save some of the middle relievers for the rest of us.

James: Well - when you have no closers on your team ... (unless Gagne comes through)

Mike: That last post by James was really me - I missed with the mouse. (Should have used Ben's advice)

Round 14 - John takes Kotsay, SD - OF - already taken

Ben: John, Kotsay is taken already

Toby: party foul . . .

John: It took too long to find him I am taking him anyway!

Mike: Nice try John!

Round 14 - John takes Lloyd, Mon - P

Toby: Well, it took me a long time to figure out who had Griffey, so maybe I should call him, too . . .

Round 14 - Toby takes Vina, StL - 2B

Round 14 - Levent takes Reese, Pit - SS

Ben: sorry, it's going to take me a second. The board fixing cost me a few minutes

Round 14 - Ben takes Jason Schmidt, SF - P

Onder: Take your time Ben, Toby just got my pick... :)

Toby: damn, ben

Round 14 - Onder takes Zeile, Col - 3B

Round 14 - Tom takes Padilla, Phi - P

Ben: You know, back when I picked Boone, I had decided that I wanted Zeile. Then I forgot....

Toby: damn, tom

Round 15 - Mike takes Martinez, StL - 1B

Mike: Had to go with the ex-Yankee -

Toby: hey ben, when do I get skipped next?

Mike: I second the damn, tom vote of Toby's

Round 15 - James takes Ortiz, Col - 2B

Toby: anyone? anyone?

Ben: Here's the skip recipe: take your draft position and add multiples of 9. Those are the rounds you start, so after the pick in that round you are "skipped".

James: Not for at least a couple of rounds Tob.

Toby: so my next skip round is the 18th?

Ben: You start the 18th, and then you pick last in the 19th.

Round 15 - John takes Anderson, Phi - 2B

Toby: ok, thanks.

Round 15 - Toby takes Armas, Mon - P

Round 15 - Levent takes Lowell, Fla - 3B

Mike: Toby - you did it again, taking my next potential pick! Luckily, I have plenty of time to find another!

Round 15 - Ben takes Ray Lankford, SD - OF

Tom: damn, toby

Ben: I'll second the damn, Toby.

Round 15 - Onder takes Hernandez, SF - P

Round 15 - Tom takes Bergeron, Mon - OF

Round 15 - Ladd takes Bere, Chi - P

Ben: James's comment about the supplemental draft raises an important issue: we have players who were drafted healthy but are already injured that people might like to put on the injured reserve. Rather than have a mad rush as the method, would it be better to try to use draft order for these replacements? It would need to be done by Friday (I don't know how many we're talking about here).

Round 16 - James takes Hernandez, Mil - SS

Toby: shucks, ladd

Ben: Also, I need my memory refreshed: what did we decide about the injured reserve? I was advocating an unlimited number of IR spots (limited, of course, to eligible players). I can't remember if we decided to do that or not.

Round 16 - John takes Bautista, Ari - OF

Toby: OK, that round sucked. In order, I was going to take: bere, bautista, hernandez. I felt kind of prepared.

Round 16 - Toby takes Reuteer, SF - P

Round 16 - Levent takes Bell, SF - 3B

Round 16 - Ben takes Braden Looper, Fla - P

Mike: IR spots - I don't like the unlimited injured reserve, and don't think we ever agreed on it. Interesting question about the players that were drafted healthy and are now injured - as this does not happen in a one day draft. I assume the "can't replace" injured player rule only applies to players actually drafted injured. With only one IR spot - the only need for a "draft order" method is if there are many players in the same position injured. That's my two cents.

Round 16 - Onder takes Helling, Ari - P

Round 16 - Tom takes Lawrence, SD - P

Ben: Okay, that's it. I'm going to try not to look at the pitchers I'm interested in. Somehow I'm tipping my picks.

John: Yeah Ben we should have told you, but we can all tell.

Round 16 - Ladd takes Cruz, Chi - P

Toby: f*ck

Round 16 - Mike takes Estes, NY - P

Mike: Tried to read Ben's mind - that was the delay. not getting good reception in So. Cal. from Germany.

Toby: damnit, stop it. just stop it.

Toby: i'm taking a pitcher next, can you tell? don't take mine!!

Tom: I think you have your receiver tuned to Lewisburg, Mike. You got the wrong mind there. Remember, Ben isn't here this year ...

Round 17 - John takes Quantrill, LA - P

John: Fine, I didn't want a starter anyway. You guys are killin me and now I get to wait 2 rounds.

Ben: Mike, I'm thinking: Joe DiMaggio, Joe DiMaggio, Joe DiMaggio... so you won't get anything from me!

Levent: Guys, normally our draft takes about 5 hours... today we are doing half of it and we covered about 6 rounds in 2.5 hours. My permission will run out in about one hour. Please hurry up.

Ben: Levent's right, we are going slow. Is there too much multitasking going on?

Round 17 - Toby takes Trachsel, SF - P

Mike: I think the whole pick a day thing has made people lazy - they actually think if they look long enough they can find someone good!

Round 17 - Levent takes Reynolds, Hou - P

Round 17 - Ben takes Jeff D'Amico, NY - P

Levent: I am serious. I came to visit my wife and she gave me permission for a 3 hour draft. More I cannot ask (and also not willing to).

Round 17 - Onder takes Izturis, LA - SS

Round 17 - Tom takes Lee, Phi - 1B

Ben: I was hoping Lee would last another round. Sigh...

Round 17 - Ladd takes Johnson, Fla - C

Round 17 - Mike takes Lieberthal, Phi - C

Round 17 - James takes Polanco, StL - 3B

Toby: sorry, didn't realize it was me

Round 18 - Toby takes Adrian Brown, Pit - OF

Round 18 - Levent takes Adams, Phi - P

Round 18 - Ben takes Eli Marrero, StL - C

Onder: Give me a minute, I had to reboot... We have storms here and had power out for a few minutes.

Mike: That's a reasonable excuse.

Ben: I'd like to reboot too ... I wanted Marrero, but I panicked and took him too soon.

Round 18 - Onder takes Lopez, Atl - P

Round 18 - Tom takes Larkin, Cin - SS

Round 18 - Ladd takes Miller, Ari - C

Round 18 - Mike takes Giles, Atl - 2B

Round 18 - James takes Barrett, Mon - C

Round 18 - John takes Ausmus, Hou - C

John: I could smell the run on catchers coming!

Round 19 - Levent takes Hammonds, Mil - OF

John: and I really wanted Barrett

Round 19 - Ben takes Morgan Ensberg, Hou - 3B

Round 19 - Onder takes Farnsworth, Chi - P

Round 19 - Tom takes Perez, LA - P

Round 19 - Ladd takes Gonzalez, Chi - SS

Round 19 - Mike takes Payton, NY - OF

Round 19 - James takes Pavano, Mon - P

John: Levent, if you need to go you could send Onder some pitching picks. He has all his pitchers.

Round 19 - John takes Grace, Ari - 1B

Round 19 - Toby takes Wilkerson, Mon - OF

Round 20 - Ben takes Durazo, Ari - 1B

Round 20 - Onder takes Gonzalez, SD - C

Round 20 - Tom takes Hundley, Chi - C

Round 20 - Ladd takes Herges, Mon - P

Ben: Aaargh! Tom!

Round 20 - Mike takes Lugo, Hou - SS

Round 20 - James takes Veres, StL - P

James: you're better off without him, Ben.

Round 20 - John takes DeFelice, StL - C

Ben: James, we're all better off without all these late round picks. But rules is rules.

Ben: Or is that rules is as rules does? I've forgotten all my American color.

Round 20 - Toby takes Fox, Mil - P

Round 20 - Levent takes LaRue, Cin - C

Levent: Guys, I need to leave. I need 3 SPs for the last three rounds, but I don't have email access to send any lists, so pls pick for me...

Toby: If you want to send me your picks, I'm done with pitchers. falk@pheno.physics.wisc.edu

Round 21 - Onder takes Agbayani, Col - OF

Toby: Oh, ok, I wasn't paying attention.

Levent: OK, Toby can pick for me...

Round 21 - Tom takes Rios, Pit - OF

John: Enjoy the rest of vacation Levent.

Ben: Toby, do you mind picking for Levent? You can take what time you need, since the rest of us probably don't have such strict deadlines.

Round 21 - Ladd takes Jarvis, SD - P

Round 21 - Mike takes Remlinger, Atl - P

Ben: By the way, Onder, Agbayani was the absolute late outfielder I was interested in. Now I'm kind of lost...

Round 21 - James takes Bennett, Col - C

Round 21 - John takes Fogg, Pit - P

Toby: sure, I'll pick for levent.

John: I had Rios on my list, but now I just need to find someone actually playing.

Round 21 - Toby takes Shinjo, SF - OF

Toby: So, is Levent gone? Shall I make this pick for him? Levent?

Onder: Ben, you're lucky... I still have to find two more outfielders.

Ben: Yes, I think Levent is gone.

Toby: ok, I'll just be a minute

John: I think Shinjo is in SF

James: Shinjo is SF.

Toby: You know, it's hard to pick for someone else. A lot more pressure. Levent will take Clement, from Chi. Rationalle: He'll get good run support this year, he gets good strikeouts, and as the 5th starter he'll be going up against lesser foes.

Round 21 - Levent takes Clement, Chi - P

Round 21 - Ben takes Ben Petrick, Col - C

Ladd: Toby - is that your rationale or Levent's? :)

Round 22 - Tom takes Jensen, SF - P

Ben: Toby, when you make Levent's pick, go ahead and select his name and submit the pick.

Toby: Ok, I'll take Shinjo anyway

Toby: ok, ben

James: No need to justify a 21st round pick Toby, esp. with 9 players this year it is pretty tuff sledding.

Toby: That's pure toby analysis, baby. Man, how come I never win this thing?

James: "don't think meat, it will only hurt the team" - Bull Durham

Ladd: What are we going to do about replacing the players who went on the DL AFTER we drafted ( Maddux, WWilliams, ? )? Do I need to worry about looking for another pitcher today?

Round 22 - Ladd takes Young, Pit - 1B

James: I don't want/can't do any more than the draft today. This has gone way over my time budget. I vote to deal with the DL tomorrow.

Round 22 - Mike takes Santiago, SF - C

Round 22 - James takes Grudzielanek, LA - 2B

Ben: Let's settle the injured draftees issue. How about this: everyone who has a player that they drafted before today who was injured after being drafted, post the names of those players now. We'll see where conflicts could arise (i.e. the person who picked Maddux should get to pick a replacement before the person who picked Williams). So post the names of your injured.

Ladd: INJ - Williams ( 9th rnd )

James: Maddux P (1), Alou OF (7)

Round 22 - John takes Gant, SD - OF

Round 22 - Toby takes McEwing, NY - OF

Round 22 - Levent takes Tomko, SD - P

Round 22 - Ben takes Garrett Stephenson, StL - P

Ben: Man, I had Tomko ready to go...

Ladd: Initial impression. Roger Cedeno may get more steals this year than James' whole team.

Levent: Sorry, ben, but my wife told me to draft Tomko, and she's the boss . . .

Round 22 - Onder takes Roberts, LA - OF

Ben: Barry Bonds may hit more homers than about half the teams

Round 23 - Ladd takes Karros, LA - 1B

James: My goal was to get fewer steals then Wynona Ryder (sp?).

Ben: It's funny, Ladd, when we both had our 1B and outside infielders left to go, I took a long look at Karros and Young, and decided I had to find someone else and pick them soon. Best of luck with them.

Round 23 - Mike takes Hunter, Hou - OF

Levent: heh, james, that's a good one.

John: Ladd, those are great late round piccks.

Ben: Evidently selecting Levent's name can be habit forming.

Round 23 - James takes Nunez, Fla - P

Toby: Uh, oh, yeah. Better change that before I pick again . . .

Ladd: That hurts Ben! I still thinking getting Karros in the last round is a steal. I like Ensberg, but what do you hope to get from Durazo? I think he's even injured right now.

Round 23 - John takes DeJean, Mil - P

Round 23 - Toby takes Zaun, Hou - C

Ben: Sorry Ladd. Odds are that one of those two will reverse their career decline, so by taking both you've hedged your bets. Durazo is out for the first month of the season. But I hope they will play him at 1st against righties and in RF otherwise. It's a long shot, I agree.

Ladd: Thanks for defending me John. FWIW, I think Nunez is a great pickup at this point. He'll probably end up with the closer role (eventually) in Florida and with that staff he should get quite a few save chances.

John: Ben, when are you back in the states?

Ladd: I can't believe nobody took Ausmus. What's up with that?

James: Thanks Ladd, I like Karros' chances this year too.

Ben: I'm coming back on May 30th. I took Looper hoping he could hold on to the closer role, but I fear Nunez might land it.

John: I took Ausmus!

James: I"m sure someone took Ausmus. I wanted him.

Ladd: Sorry John. My bad.

Round 23 - Levent takes Wells, Pit - P

Round 23 - Ben takes Roosevelt Brown, Chi - OF

Mike: so why do I get a round 24 pick, wasn't my last picks bad enough?

Round 23 - Onder takes McEwing, NY - OF - already taken

Ladd: Ben, can I take a round 24 pick too! Sorry for the sarcasm. Seriously, great job with the web page again this year. It just keeps getting better.

Toby: lol

Round 23 - Tom takes Jimenez, SD - SS

Ladd: McEwing is gone.

Toby: Thanks again, Ben. God my team sucks.

Tom: Yeah, the web page is great. All we need is RealAudio and video conferencing:-) Thanks for arranging all that.

We are done now, correct?

Ben: Okay, we should settle this injury draft issue. I'm kind of in the mix, because I'd like to use my free replacement already to cut Strickland (pitcher), but he's after Williams and Maddux. So how does this sound: James should pick his replacement for Maddux by Monday, Ladd should replace Williams by Tuesday, and I and everyone else can start making transactions with pitchers as of Wednesday.

Toby: (Onder needs to repick)

Mike: Perfect timing - Melissa is finally demanding attention - great draft everyone. Great web page Ben. talk to you all later

James: Thanks Ben, great job as always.

Ladd: We're done, except Onder needs to redo his last pick. I'm good with replacing Williams by Tuesday.

Round 23 - Onder takes Sanchez, Mil - OF

Ben: Onder, the page has been re-set - you need to repick your outfielder because McEwing was taken already.

James: OK, but I think I'm going to be at home tomorrow and away from my email. I'll post my replaceement here if thats OK.

Toby: Good luck to everyone. Bye bye!

Ben: Okay, that was fun. I'll tidy up here. Stats are likely to come Friday, or if not, they'll be out by Monday.

John: Adios!

Tom: Chow. See y'all virtually.

Onder: Bye...

James: If we only have one IR spot, which I'm in favor of, I'll use it for Alou not Maddux. I'll pick up Benard OF SF. If we have can have more than one let me know.

Round 23 - Tom takes Schilling, Ari - P

Tom: I'm doing a test here to show Ned how cool this site is, so don't worry -- I'm not REALLY trying to steal Schilling.
