My department has a state-of-the-art video production facility in Marts Hall. We need a mobile-friendly online system for student users to (1) reserve film-making equipment (such as cameras, stabilizers etc.); (2) reserve time in the editing suites; and (3) request tutorials from the lab staff. On the administrative side, this system must be able to track who has checked out which equipment, when it is due , and what our inventory levels are.
1.) Provide a reliable, user-friendly online system for managing the different resources of the Marts Production Lab.
2.) Provide administrators with an accurate, easy-to-read tally of who is using our resources and what our inventory levels are
3.) Give student users a means to search by resource type (i.e. a search box in which a user could type “tripod” and be told how many and what type of tripods we have)
4.) Have an online system that is embeddable in course-management software (e.g. WordPress blogs, Moodle pages, Google folders)
The successful implementation of such a system will make it easier for film/media studies majors (and others) to get access to the rich array of resources that Bucknell has in this area, and would help with our goal of giving all Bucknell students the chance to learn about film and video production (an increasingly important job and life skill). The system would also live on long after its creators graduate, and would be a valuable resource for many years to come.
The system must accurately track inventories and process student requests in order. It must be linkable to the Film/Media Studies web page. The system must be mobile friendly (because that’s how most users will access it) but not mobile exclusive.
We will be able to supply the team with detailed information about all of the equipment and facilities that the team would need to account for, interviews with potential users (so that they can learn what they want), and liaison meetings with any other Bucknell group whose computer systems might have to interact with the system (e.g. Enterprise Systems).
