England Trip
Day 13 June 30, 2002
By Dan, Mary Jane and Scotty Hyde

Sunday June 30 - Dawlish, Devonshire

We get up about 6:15 a.m. We have a tasty English breakfast.

After breakfast, we walk to the beach from our B & B. Scotty touches the Atlantic Ocean. He and Dan pick up some shells. We see two trains on a railroad track nearby.

We enjoy our visit with the Bodenhams. Chris really loves the sea. She and Reg moved to Dawlish because the pollution of Shirehampton and Bristol really bothered Chris. We have Sunday lunch at The Smuggler's Inn - and a delicious lunch it is, too, with beef, lamb, chicken, and bowls of cooked vegetables. We have a fine view of the sea from the dining room.

Since we all want to find out the outcome of the World Cup final soccer game. Brazil vs. Germany, which is being telecast starting at noon, Reg records the game while we are having lunch. After lunch, we return to the Bodenham's to watch the game. When we return to Chris and Reg's house, Reg, with a very straight face, asks us if we know how the game comes out. We tell him we do not know, and not to tell us, just let us find out as we watch the game. Reg's solemn face makes us think maybe Brazil lost the game, so we are happy to see Brazil win, 2-0!

Chris and Reg serve us a tasty tea with tea, sandwiches, cheese, crackers, and a "sweet" dessert. This is a pleasant conclusion to our visit. As we leave, Chris tells us not to wait another fourteen years to return to England and visit them!
