England Trip
Day 3 June 20, 2002
By Dan, Mary Jane and Scotty Hyde

Thursday June 20 - London

"Afterwards, we walk to Tower Bridge, St. Paul's Cathedral, and St. Mary-le-Bow church." (Dan.) Tower Bridge has lovely architecture. St. Paul's Cathedral is the location of the "Feed the Birds" sequence ("Bird Lady" selling breadcrumbs, "tuppence a bag," on the steps of St. Paul's) in the movie "Mary Poppins." Scotty is a "natural" to photograph on the steps! He also looks good on the steps of St. Mary-le-Bow church, which we visit at Jan's request, because, according to tradition, anyone born within earshot of the bells of this church is a "true cockney." We sit a while in the church courtyard, and hear the famous bells when they strike. The name "St. Mary-le-Bow" figures in an adventure we have as we are leaving Legoland on July 1.

Our first day in London ends with a lovely dinner at Zuccato City, an Italian restaurant not far from St. Mary-le-Bow.
