Hance Jacob GRIETER came to America first in about 1717. He came second according to Pennsylvania German Pioneers vol 1, 1727-1775, by Ralph Beaver Strassburger of the Pennsylvania German Society of Norristown Penn. on the 16th of September 1736 on the Ship Princess Augusta. Samuel Marchant, Master, from Rotterdam. He was listed as Hance Jacob Grieter age 55. He came with his children Fredrick Grieter age 21, and Martain Grieter age 19. These were two of eleven children.

2. Martin2 GRIETER (HANCE JACOB1) was born 1717 in Berne, Switzerland, and died Aft. 24 May 1774 in Stephens city, Frederick co., Virginia. He married Caterine BRAKE Abt. 1758, daughter of John BRAKE and Mary Margaret. She died Aft. 1777 in Stephens city, Frederick co., Virginia.

From Frederick County Virginia Wills, Page 300, vol 4. 1774. The following is a loose translation. The originial was difficult to read and needs more study. The following was taken from a copy of a copy of the original.

Will

In the name of God amen, Whereas I Martin Cridar of Stephensburg in the countie of Fredrick and colony of Virginia am very sick in body but in perfect mind and memory thanks be to God for it and bring to mind the uncertinties of this human life and the sertaintie of Death do think preport to set my worly possessions order first and priciapely I comit my Soul to God who gave it to me my body to be buried in a like manner at the pronsion of my Executees and as to such worly good as it hath pleased God to bless me with incont dispose of in mannar and form as ,and forever that all my just debts and funeral charges be paid. I Imprimis I do order and bequeath to my well blesed wife Catran Cridar during her natural life to have and enjoy all the benefits of my hay and two lots in Stephensburg and all my movable effects.

Item. I likewise beguave to my son Jacob Cridar his heirs and assigns the tract of land whereon he now livith on a track of Sedar Creek containing three hundred and fortie six acars with all the all the benefits therein belonging to me likewise I order that the said Jacob Crydar do in to his mother Catran yerly and every year if she demand it ten bushels of wheat and five of rye and the third of the frute and one hundred weight of rk and two wagonloads of hay.

Item I beguave to my daughter Cristiana her heirs and assigns aftar her mother nisoes to enjoy said parsels my real estate with all the apurtannenes belonging to me dis the two half acres to number 38 and 39 with the out lots containing ten acres to ech lot there in Stephensburg and likewise one hundred acrs ajoining my ould tract and Joseph Tris tract and Woolf tract. Likewise I order ordain and appoint my son Jacob Cridar and John Cooper my hol and soal executive to act for me on my behalf as if I were personaly present, published pronounced and declared before us this 24th day of May 1774.

At a court held for Frederick county the 4th day of April 1775this will was proved by the oaths of Joseph Faucet Sen and Joseph Faucet Jun. Witnesses thereto of ordered to be recorden and and on the motion of Jacob Cridar executor therein named who made oath thereunto according to law certificate is granted for obtaining a probate thereof in due form he with security having entered into and acknowledged bond conditions as the law parecta.

4. Martin4 CRYDER (Jacob3, Martin2 GRIETER, Hance Jacob1) was born 26 February 1770 in Stephens city, Frederick Co., Virginia, and died 31 March 1852 in Taylor Twp., Union Co., Ohio. He married Mary NISEWANGER 14 October 1801 in Frederick Co., Virginia, daughter of Abraham NISEWANGER and Margaret. She was born 12 December 1776 in Frederick Co., Virginia, and died 29 December 1858 in Taylor Twp., Union Co., Ohio.

Notes for Martin CRYDER:

Martin and his family moved in 1820 to Harrison Co., Ohio and after three years moved to Knox Co., Pleasant Twp. then to Miller Twp., then to Union Twp. where they died. On the 1850 census he is listed in Miller Twp. pg.83 Knox Co.
