Obituary for Joseph Bennett Keener
Died November 18, 2004

Joseph Bennett Keener, 82, formerly of Weston, died Nov. 18, 2004. He was born July 20, 1922 in Weston, a son of the late Dr. George Ira Keener and Bertha Bennett Keener.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Trinkle Keener; one son, Joseph Edwin Keener of San Antonio, Texas, and daughter-in-law, Debra Welch Keener; granddaughter, Stephanie Keener Wagstaff and great-grandson Brandon Trey Wagstaff of Arlington, Texas, and grandson Thomas Edwin Keener and wife Jennifer Marie Keener and great-grandchildren, Tyler Edwin Keener and Katelynn Marie Keener, also of Arlington; cousin Hunter Bennett of Weston and Mary Bland Bennett of Deland, Fla.

He was the grandson of the late Judge William George Bennett and Alice Brannon Bennett and great-grandson of Jonathon McCally Bennett, Auditor of the State of Virginia during the Civil War, and Margaret Elizabeth Jackson Bennett, a cousin of General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson.

Mr. Keener was a life member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Weston, a graduate of Greenbriar Military School and West Virginia Wesleyan College. His army service during World War II included 2-1/2 years in the Pacific operations and ended in the Philippines at the conclusion of the war. He was an employee of Union Oil Company of California for 34 years, retiring in 1986. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who lived his life by the Golden Rule.
