Notes for John Weaver MARPLE

According to the 1880 Upshur Co., WV census, John was b. PA, father b. MD, mother b. PA.

He served in the War of 1812 and moved from PA to VA in 1815. I am questioning the fact that John Weaver was in the War of 1812--there were 2 John Marples who fought in this war in Pattersons 2nd Regiment, PA Militia--one could have been John Adrian Marple f/o John Weaver.[8]

1830 Lewis Co. census shows household headed by John Marple with 1 M 20-30 2 F 0-5 1 F 15-20

1850 Lewis Co. census shows John age 45, b. VA, Ruth age 41 b. VA, Albina age 16, Addison E. age 14, Almira A age 10, Columbus F. age 4 and Columbia H. age 1.

1870 Upshur Co. census shows John age 65, Ruth age 60, Almyra age 30 and her 3 children from her marriage to Elam; Rose Ella age 9, Omar age 7, and Electra age 5. Warren Twp. Their sons, Albinos and Addison, and their daughter, Samantha married to Job Casto, were all neighbors. Also, Abram and Mary Post lived nearby.

1880 Upshur Co. census: John, age 75, Ruth age 70.

On 26 Jul 1855, John was listed as the postmaster located in Marples Store near Hodgesville in Upshur Co., VA. Records for this were sent to me by Robert Marple of Buckhannon, himself a retired postmaster.

The 3 children of Almyra Arminta Marple Robinson, Rose Ella, Omar and Electa, apparently all lived with their grandparents until they were grown. Rose Ella married at her grandparents' home on Hackers Creek.

Notes for Ruth REGER

Ruth raised her grandchildren by daughter, Almyra. After the death of Elam Robinson in IL, Almyra traveled back to WV with a 4 yr old daughter (Melinda Larson's great grandmother Rose Ella), a 2 yr old son and at the time was 8 months pregnant with her 3rd child. Electa, the infant was born just 5 weeks after her father's death. Almyra and her children lived with her parents until she remarried--she left her children with her parents and went to live with her new husband. Rose Ella was married at her grandparents' home and named her 1st child, my grandmother Ethel Ruth, after her grandmother.
