To Cody in Detroit, Texas if you Google Reger family crest, it will show you early images of our family crest and coat of arms, you will also see the evolving crests through the years. As early as 1571 we had a stork or a large herring/egret. That animal could still be on our banner today. 1571 so far is the earliest sigil that I have seen. I did a DNA test about 7 years ago, and somewhere before the 1500's we migrated to Germany, Poland, Denmark area of europe, from Scotland, ireland, England, etc....

Feb. 28,2016 I have recently changed my e-mail to omapurifoy@yahoo.com . I have also had my DNA taken which did answer some of my questions. REGER, Oliveri, Sabel on my father's side and Hypes, Dorsey, Bailes, Van Bibber, CUTLIP, Nutter, Sebert and many more. Ireland, U.K.,Germany, Hungary, Italy and the complete Mediterranean Sea area.Oh! Plus France and Spain! Did you know that our last names were forced upon us by tax collectors. History is amazing! I called myself a German descendent only to find out I am also 22 percent Irish plus a good dose of Mediterrean countries I am still trying to pronounce. Have a great adventure....

I have not added a query to this site for some time. I am still attempting to "prove" the parents of George Simon (s) born in VA/WVA in 1806. He married Celia Reger. They eventually moved to MO where I have traced them to their final listing on any census (1870). I do not believe they returned to VA/WVA but died and are buried somewhere in MO, probably Linn Co in "unmarked graves". I have seen so much misinformation regarding this couple and their children. I've researched this family since the late 1970s as George and Celia are my great great grandparents. If you have POSITIVE DOCUMENTED PROOF on the parents of George Simon (s), contact me, if not please don't publish any sort of misinformation regarding their children. It is really very frustrating to read WRONG information. Thank you.

My maternal grandparents were Joseph Paul Reger and Mary Martha Arthur Reger. My grandfather came from Wuerttemberg, Germany, in 1881, at the age of 6. My grandmother was born in Wheeling and was the daughter of William Vincent Arthur and his first wife, Alice Murphy, who died when my grandmother was very young. My mother was Magdalen Reger McDonnell, who was born in Wheeling on 02/20/20. My mother died at the age of 58 in Maynard, Belmont County, OH, on 9/29/78. Mom was from a large family and grew up in a section of Wheeling informally known as 'Goosetown'. My great-grandparents were Heinrich and Elizabeth Gaus Reger. They lived in Wheeling for several years, however, Elizabeth Reger died in Spencer, WV, which is located in Roane County. Many of the Reger family are buried in Wheeling on National Road at Mount Calvary cemetery. I would love to hear from long lost relatives and maybe to exchange family photos.

Hello, I'm sure you've received this question before, but I'm wondering if anyone has any data on Sydney Reger and how she might fit in to the WV Regers. She was born 1794 Wood Co. (or, I suppose, Harrison county at that time), WV, and married Samuel WIlliamson in 1817. Interesting facts I haven't been able to place: 1. She and her husband Samuel appear to have been in Indiana around 1830 (their son was born here). I recall that two of the Reger women also moved to Indiana. 2. Her children have several names that do seem to mirror popular names in the Reger family (Anthony, Nancy). Not sure this is significant. If you have any info, please let me know. Thanks! What proof and where is it, that Magdalena Reger was the daughter of Andreas Durr? We have read this often, but another researcher and I cannot find the proof of the Durr connection. We are searching for the parents of Jacob Durr, born 1790, in Maryland, who later went to Fayette Co. Pa. We believe his father was Jacob Durr, b. @1764/65, and that he is the son of Andreas Durr who arrived in Philadelphia in 1749. Any clarification is welcome.

My grandmother was Sarah Ann Demarest who born April 27, 1894 and married my grandfather John B Reger born January 28, 1893. She died in February of 1983 and He died in Mary 1977. They were from the North Jersey area. I don't know exactly what towns they were born in. The Demarest family has quite an extensive history dating back to 1687 in New Jersey. I don't know anything about the Reger side of the family. They had four daughters, Gladys Embley(deceased) Martha McMurtry(living), Doris Demarest Quinn (deceased my mother) and the youngest Muriel Talada (deceased). If anyone knows anything, please contact me.

I have just been on line and read some of the info regarding the Reger clan. I am one of the grandchildren of Lorenzo Dow Reger and Mary Susan Reger. We left texas when I was 5 or 6 (I am now 75) and went back to visit Mary Susan, Fred Reger, Nove Reger, Cecil and Ruby in 1951. My dad was George W. Reger married to Vesta May Davis. Dad died in 1971 and mom in 1981. My name is Billie, and I have 8 brothers and sisters (one sister deceased, tho). Pershing, Leon, Vera, Gladys, Sudie, Billie, Bobbie (deceased), John and Shirley. Most of us are located in and around Corvallis, Oregon and Boise, Idaho. I remember seeing Fred Reger again in 1982 not too long after his son, Roy, died in an accident. We used to see June Reger, can't remember anything but Uncle Charlie, her husband, and do not know last name. They lived near Corvallis. My brother, John "Bud" has visited with some of the Regers at a reunion a few years ago. My parents lived in Eliasville, TX before migrating to Oregon. I think they had 7 of us when they left Eliasville. I would love to hear from anyone. Billie@sageproperties.us

As many Reger, Brake, Simon, Rohrbough, etc families are connected by marriage, I just thought perhaps someone reading this might have the info I seek. Thanks.

I am granddaughter of Chris Reger and Bonnie Stewart. My father is Harry Ronald Reger. My father, sister, and brother still live in Texas. My father was born in 1927 in Hawaii while his father was stationed there with the military. It would be interesting to learn more about our branch of the family. A few hours ago I discovered while reading the Queries for Reger Family History that in February 2004 Mary Reger Pyles of Grove City, Ohio sent a message in which she stated that she had a ca. 100+ page history of the Reger Family history back to Antoni Reger 1690 Germany (that part is now Switzerland)and that she would e-mail a copy to those interested. Then in March she sent a message in which she stated that her father's great-grandfather was Granville Reger and that all she knew so far had to do with the Milan, Missouri Regers. One of my great-grandfathers is Granville Reger of Milan, Missouri. One of his children (Nina Gertrude Reger --- born in Milan on July 9, 1876) is my paternal-line grandmother, being the mother of my father Forest Reger Allen (1914-1989). Therefore, I would like to make contact with her. When I attempted late this afternoon to e-mail to Mary Reger Pyles at mary_ pyles15@yahoo.com to state an interest in receiving a copy of the history, I received a message that the e-mail could not be delivered because the account has been disabled or discontinued. I wish to extend my sincere condolences to her family if something tragic has happened to her between March 2004 and the present and if possible I would like to have a copy of the history. Bernard L. My mother, Mary Reger Lanham King, recently passed away. About 20 years ago she had been contacted by Ada Lea Fitz of Oklahoma City. Ms. Fitz had requested that my mother update information on the history of our branch of the Reger Family. My family is descended from Jacob and Barbara Reger, through their youngest son Abram, to his son Jacob, to his youngest son Washington (my great-grandfather). Ms. Fitz included a "History of the Reger Family" by JL Reger of Enid, OK, dated November, 1937. I can update information on our branch of the family. Does anyone know how to contact her? Also, is this web site still active?

Anthony REGER married ca 1780's the Widow Susannah SIMONS and had: Susannah married James Clark (1804), Magdalen married Daniel Clark (1803), Henry married Eliz Rohrbaugh (1815) and Barbara Strader (1824), Saul married Mariah Dobson (1820) and Martha Busby, Philip married Eliz Wolfe (1817) and Jane McCoy, Rachel married James Barnes (1820), and Anthony who had no issue. Has anyone researched this family? Anthony died circa 1799 though many old Reger genealogies give a later date. His widow Susannah married 3rd to Henry Reger, but there were no children by the last marriage. By her first marriage to Mr. Simons there seem to have been three or more children?

It has always been my understanding that Philip and Isabelah Kreutz lived in the Palatine Valley of Germany. When it became dangerous they moved across the line to Switzerland and then to Belgium and sailed to Pennsylvania in 1741. However, the Kreutz', eventually Crites, Barbara's parents were Philip and Isabelah. (Rumor has it that her family came from Italy). They supposedly came over with 6 kids, P and I did, and eventally had 6 more. Barbara is my GGGGGAunt. I have never tried to go back any further than 1741. Most of my information came from Mildred Huber Serolas book, "Abraham's Twelve". I am no profesional at genealogy, but I do know the history of the family from the people who were my immediate relatives, John Crites, son James, and daughter Stella, my mother. I am 76 years of age. I have the Everts Family Bible. It is extremely fragile.

Hello all! I recently found this website and it sparked my interest in our family history. I emailed Mary and she's sending me her 100+ pages research on the topic, but I'm not sure where my branch of the family fit in! I am the son of Timothy Allen Reger, whose father Dale Reger was born in Nebraska. My greatgrandfather Is Luster Abo (I think) Reger. He grew up in Oklahoma, we think around Altas, but moved to Nebraska. My grandfather says that his dad and grandad were estranged because his grandfather was hard on the kids, and therefore he doesn't really know anything about him. Any and all information on my branch of the clan would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help.

Hi fellow Regers! My grandfather was George Washington Reger, who passed away in the late 1980s and was born in 1917. I guess he was born in Milan, Missouri, and some of his siblings (most or all sisters) are still living there (he came from a family of 11 siblings). Apparently his father's name (my great-grandfather's name) was Gilbert Reger. I was wondering if we are descendants of the Earl Solomon Reger or Jacob Washington Reger some people mentioned. Does anybody know this? Also, an aside: I heard of another Amy Reger, living in the Roanoke, VA area. Does anyone know her? I wonder if we are (very) distant relatives.

Response to "Where did all the Jacob Reger Land Go?" Hi, from what I have read, Lord Fairfax owned the lands on the south fork and north fork near Moorefield. He offered the lands on a lease agreement in the 1750's, (this is when the Reger's migrated from Tulpehocken, Pa. to Virginia), for a period of 21 years, with the leaseholders paying annual rent. This would explain the mass exodus by the Regers, Crites, Westfalls, Cutrights, etc into the area of Buckhannon, WV around 1770's. Hans Jacob was later given a land grant by Patrick Henry in 1785 for his service in the Revolutionary War, near Volga, WV for 400+/- acres. My branch is from Hans Jacob's son Anthony, Henry, Goodman, Henry K., Kent, Verl K., me. I now live in Buckhannon, my name is Lawrence Reger

Does any one have the full estate settlement papers for John REGER who wrote his will in 1831 in Muskingum Co., Ohio. I am told that there are settlement records of distribution dating as late as 1836 which prove many of the children of his siblings, since he made bequests to the heirs of several of his siblings? It would seem that these documents might answer some of the confusion that exists about this generation of Regers. This John Reger was the second husband of Mary Magdalene Brake who had married lst to Leonard Stump.

My Regers settled in Rochester, NY. John and Barbara (Lenhard)Reger arrived in the US with sons Ulrich (William) and John sometime between 1845 and 1850. In the U.S. Sarah (Theresa), Balthasar, Margaret, Rosa, Leonard, and Joseph were born. The two eldest sons both served in the Civil War under the surname Raker. It appears that John and his children George, Charles, and Otto kept the Raker surname. Senior John was born approx. 1804 in Bavaria. Wife Barbara about 1817 in Bavaria. Am hoping John had siblings that came to the States too. All you West Virginia Regers, anything sound familiar?

Who was Henry Reger who made his will in Harrison Co., W.Va. in April 1806 where he died shortly thereafter? He had married a few years earlier to Susannah Reger, widow of Anthony Reger (d 1799). Henry's will names Anthony's children as if they are his own, but they are proven in a Randolph Co., WVA deed in June 1801 (Bk 3, p. 33) from Jacob Brake to the "Heirs of Anthony Reger" which names them: Susanna, Magdalen, Henry, Solomon (often called Saul, as in Henry's will), Philip, Rachel, and Anthony. Does any one know the maiden name of Susannah who had been first married to a Mr. Simon before her marriage to the two Regers.

Can I just say THANK YOU to whoever put this site together!?!?!? I've been trying to get past a roadblock in my genealogy for some time now, and I hope this site will afford me some success. I descend from John H. Reger from New Jersey (at one point in time). He had an only son, William Morgan Reger, Sr. who was born in 1871. The family was still in New Jersey for the 1880 census. I have seen the census record. The family consisted of father, mother (whose name I don't recall at this moment), son, and mother's mother. If you can give me any enlightenment on John H. Reger, such as where he might have been born, whether he had brothers and sisters, and his parent names, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, William M. Reger IV

Nelson was shown as age 12 at the time he was listed in the 1821 Lewis County Court Records. Abram REGER b. 1795 was the nephew of Isaac REGER my 4g grandfather. Abram m. Leah Ann BRAKE, the d/o Jacob BRAKE and Mary SLAUGHTER and the younger sister of Mary Magdalene BRAKE, w/o Isaac REGER and my 4g grandmother. Abram and Leah had their 1st daughter in 1816 named Cecelia REGER. Their last daughter was named Leah Brake REGER. Nelson ROBINSON m. Catherine LANCE in 1833 Lewis Co. His 1st daughter b. 1837 was named Cecelia. Ruth REGER d/o Isaac and Mary Magdalene Brake REGER m. John Weaver MARPLE. Their daughter, Almyra Arminta MARPLE m. Elam Cummins ROBINSON s/o Nelson and Catherine. After Elams death in 1865 and just 6 years after his marriage to Almyra, his widow and her 3 small children (age 4, 2, and newborn-this child b. just 5 weeks after her fathers death) went to live with her parents, John and Ruth Reger MARPLE. Almyra re-married but her children continued to live with the MARPLEs. Elam was in the Confederate Army and taken prisoner in 1864 with his friend from Buckhannon, Stephen POST. Stephen was m. to Leah Brake REGER youngest d/o Abram and Leah REGER. If you are still with me on this, I need to find someone who might have data on the census records for 1820 and 1830 Lewis Co. I want to see if a male the right age for Nelson is living in the Abram REGER household. The 1st child of Abram was b. 1814 so Nelson would be the oldest male in the house other than Abram, of course. Next, I want to find out where the property of Abram was located; the church he attended. I know where he and Leah are buried and in fact have photos of their headstones. When Elam ROBINSON and Stephen POST were released from prison in late 1864, they went to Bryant, Fulton Co., IL to visit Elam's sister that he hadn't seen in 8 years. (I know this because we have a journal that Elam wrote while held prisoner). This was his sister, Cecelia, named for the older sister of Stephen's wife, Leah. This is just too confusing to be believed but it all fits and after so many years, I am beginning to understand why I have had such a difficult time trying to find parents and siblings for Nelson. I do know that in 1818, in Hampshire Co., there was a RevWar soldier named John ROBINSON who swore in his pension application that he was 70 yrs old, his wife, Margaret, was 62 yrs old, and 3 children still lived at home--Catherine age 20, Nelson age 12 and Elizabeth age 11. I have always thought these people much too old to have children this age but the application was proven and he did receive a pension on 20 May 1819. I have the RevWar record for John but it does not give any further data on his family. I want to find out when this man and woman died and if they are indeed the parents of my Nelson. There were very few men named Nelson and to have 2 Nelson ROBINSON'S so close in age would be a real coincidence. Also, it would appear to me that people would have left their children with either relatives or very close friends so the possibility exhists that Margaret w/o John ROBINSON could have been a REGER or BRAKE decendant. Also, they must have lived in close proximity to one another in order for Nelson to have been with them at such an early age. Travel, as you well know, was practically non-exhistant! They wouldn't have sent him to a very distant place. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time. Melinda Larson

I am the son of Albert Paul Reger and I have some family tree information which I will research further. My grandfather was Fred Reger and further back there is a Charles Henry Reger. I believe that ultimately I am a descendant of Jacob Reger. I am out of town at present but will look up this genealogy when I get home. This is very interesting and if anyone out there has further info on my particular line I would like to hear from them. Robert Reger

I am searching for information on the last days of my great-grandmother, Emilia Jane (aka Emily Jane) Uphole Lower Simms Reger. We have the information on Uphole and Lower (her first husband). Simms was her second. She was widowed and had two children by Simms, Doyle and Beulah. Then she married someone named Reger who was from W. Va. Emilia Jane supposedly died in East Liverpool or Toronto, Ohio, in the late 30's. Any information would be helpful. Thank you.

I am looking for material to add to this site. If you have a documented family history of descendants of Jacob Reger and Barabara Crities, please send them to me for consideration. Please send as an attachment to your email message. Also, I am looking for old photos of people, homes, churches, tombstones, etc to add to this site. I can handle images in jpeg or gif format.
