Homework 11

Date Assigned: Wednesday, November 6, 2002
Date Due: Wednesday, November 13, 2002

  1. Reading: In the Nilsson/Riedel text, please continue to study Chapter 6 on capacitors and inductors. Also read Chapter 9 on sinusoids, phasors, impedance, and circuit analysis. Begin with Sections 9.1-9.6, but eventually we will study the entire chapter. Also, review Appendix B on complex numbers.

Chapter 9 provides a nice review of everything we've done so far in this course. We will be applying all of the circuit analysis methods to find the sinusoidal steady-state response. The new twist is that voltages and currents will be complex-valued phasors, while resistors, capacitors, and inductors will be modeled by complex-valued impedances.

  2. Please solve the following problems and submit solutions on November 13:
    Chapter 6: 20, 42.
    Chapter 9: 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 13.
** Modification: Problems 9.6, 9.9, and 9.13 will be part of Homework 12, so you can delete them from this assignment. **

Thank you.
