Date Due: Wednesday, Sept. 18 and Monday, Sept. 23, 2002

  1. Reading: In the Nilsson/Riedel text, continue to study Chapter 4, Sections 4.1 through 4.8. Also, please review Appendix A, particularly Cramer's method for solving linear simultaneous equations, and determinants.

  2. Please note that Exam 1 will be on Wednesday, September 25. The exam will be closed-book and closed-notes, and will cover the topics from homework assignments 1 through 5. I will be out of town from September 24 through 26, so please see me this week if you have questions.

I have arranged for a student assistant to be available on Tuesday, September 24, in case you have questions about the homework. Jon Berardino (one of the graders for this course) will be in Dana 129 from 7-9 PM to answer your questions.

  3. Please solve the following problems, and submit solutions on September 18:
    Chapter 4: Problems 4, 5 and 6(a).

  4. Please solve the following problems, and submit solutions on September 23:
    Chapter 4: Problems 8, 9, 10, 13, 20, 23(a), 25, 27, and 30(a).

A change from September 18 lecture:
Omit problems 4.27 and 4.30, which use the mesh-current method.

These problems all use the node-voltage method. You should follow the step-by-step instructions for the node-voltage method as you solve these problems.

Thank you.
