Laboratory 4: Notes on Lab Report

Lab reports are due on Friday, October 30, 1998 at 9:00 AM.. Reports can be completed by individual students or in groups of two or three students.

Please address the following in your report:

  1. Answer the questions listed in the lab assignment.

  2. In Section 2 of the lab, explain (with sketches of graphs) how convolving the noisy data with the matched filter with impulse response h(t) performs an averaging operation.

  3. Explain your solution to the Design Project in Section 3 of the lab assignment. Explain how your solution is related to a matched filter, and also explain qualitatively how and why your solution works.

  4. You do not have to submit a large number of plots for this assignment. (In fact, I don't mind if you have no plots.) It is more important to explain the main concepts, and provide some results such as bit error rates when explaining how good or bad a particular scenario performs.
