Job Description:
The Lewisburg Prison Project, located in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, is a
non-profit organization providing legal and other services to prisoners in
Central Pennsylvania. The office is
presently staffed by two attorneys who respond to inmate requests for assistance
in many areas. Primarily, the Project
addresses civil rights issues such as freedom from cruel and unusual
punishment, first amendment rights, access to courts, due process, etc. The Project also receives requests for
assistance in other areas such as family, immigration, and state tort law.
Law students interested in public interest work, constitutional law,
and/or prisoner rights are encouraged to apply for a summer clerk
position. Law students will gain
valuable experience working under the supervision of Prison Project attorneys
on the wide variety of requests for legal assistance. Students will be responsible for legal research and writing,
correspondence with prisoners, and other factual investigation. Students may also have the opportunity to
visit prisoners and participate in any ongoing litigation. The Prison Project prefers students who have
completed a course in constitutional law and who are interested in public
interest law. Students who have not
completed constitutional law are still encouraged to apply.
