Job Description:

The Lewisburg Prison Project, located in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, is a non-profit organization providing legal and other services to prisoners in Central Pennsylvania.  The office is presently staffed by two attorneys who respond to inmate requests for assistance in many areas.  Primarily, the Project addresses civil rights issues such as freedom from cruel and unusual punishment, first amendment rights, access to courts, due process, etc.  The Project also receives requests for assistance in other areas such as family, immigration, and state tort law.

Law students interested in public interest work, constitutional law, and/or prisoner rights are encouraged to apply for a summer clerk position.  Law students will gain valuable experience working under the supervision of Prison Project attorneys on the wide variety of requests for legal assistance.  Students will be responsible for legal research and writing, correspondence with prisoners, and other factual investigation.  Students may also have the opportunity to visit prisoners and participate in any ongoing litigation.  The Prison Project prefers students who have completed a course in constitutional law and who are interested in public interest law.  Students who have not completed constitutional law are still encouraged to apply.
