- On September 10 the
Large
Hadron Collider was turned on. This will be the most powerful
particle
accelerator built to date, and we hope to learn important
information about the
fundamental
particles that make up all the matter in the universe.
And don't worry, there is no risk of black hole formation for at least another month!
- The 2008 Physics Nobel Prize awarded to Yoichiro Nambu, Makoto Kobayashi, and Toshihide Maskowa for the study of symmetries and broken symmetries in particle physics.
- Bucknell physics major Carrie Nugent '06 did a summer research project on glass formation at Emory University which generated some big publicity.
- Physics News Update - A collection of news reports about current events in physics.
- Physical Review Focus - Selections from Physical Review and Physical Review Letters explained for the physics community at large.
- Physics Central - A physics information site for the public maintained by the American Physical Society. Includes links to explanations of physics items in the news, people in physics, aswers to questions, and excerpts from popular writing by physicists.
