Miscellaneous/Course Info

Sat, May 5, 10:28 a.m. - Can you post the concept tests for Unit 4?

They are posted. You might want reloading the page if you're not seeing them.

Fri, May 4, 11:29 a.m. - Where is the physics final on Tuesday?

The final is from 11:45-2:45 on Tuesday, May 8. If you are enrolled in the 9:30 a.m. lecture section, you'll take the final in Olin 268. If you're enrolled in the 11 a.m. lecture section, you'll take the final in the Vaughn Lit auditorium.

Sun, May 6, 12:16 p.m. - How many notecards are allowed on the final exam?

You are allowed 4 notecards (one for each unit). Each notecard must be no larger than 3" x 5" and can only contain handwritten notes. See the Lecture slides for the last lecture for additional details.

Wed, Apr 25, 11:34 a.m. - For Problem 11 on the last drill: But what is the question?

42 is the answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything. Unfortunately, no one knows what the question is. This is a big part of the plotline of "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"

Thu, Apr 19, 11:06 a.m. - Are we responsible for information on the physicists presented at the beginning of each lecture for the final?

No. The "Physicist you should know" is for your information and to put some of the course content into the broader context of "who does physics".

Thu, Apr 12, 7:35 a.m. - Do we need to have EM spectrum wavelength and frequency ranges on our card for the exam?

You should know the wavelength range for visible light and where UV and IR fall relative to visible light.

Wed, Apr 11, 2:51 p.m. - Will the superposition of all of the states be given to us on the exam? If not, which states will be given? (for Exam 3)

Yes. See the lecture notes for lecture 21. I've included a slide that has the front page of the exam, including all constants and equations.

Tue, Apr 10, 12:59 p.m. - When I pull up the video examples that were posted on Lensoo, the actual problems and writing don't show up for the entirety of the video even though the audio works fine.

If there is a specific video that is doing this, please let us know. If it is a general problem, you might want to try reloading or viewing the videos from a campus computer.

Fri, Mar 30, 7:42 a.m. - Will we be given needed linear super positions of states (like those on pg 157) for the quiz?

Yes, Table 5.1 will be provided for you on quizzes (and on the exam).

Tue, Mar 6, 6:42 p.m. - Where are the video solutions?

The video examples are listed on the calendar pages for each lecture. The solutions are well...in the video.

Sun, Mar 4, 3:25 p.m. - Will constants like Planck's constant be given to us on the exam OR should we have these written on our exam notecard?

We will give you Planck's constant in eV and J form as well as hc in eV nm.

Mon, Feb 26, 1:15 p.m. - What are the answers to last week's assigned problems? Even though I have done them, I do not know if my thinking is on-track for many of them. Although I can get some of the problems clarified, it is often hard to check all of them if not everyone has done the problems in problem session. I'm wondering how I can check such A problems. Should I just come to office hours?

You can either come by office hours, or post to the comments page!

Sat, Feb 10, 2:12 a.m. - I broke my slinky and my slide whistle today because I was way too into it cause it was so cool do you guys have any extras? I was playing Mii theme song but then it fell out of my pocket and broke :(

In PHYS212 we have a strict performance-based slide whistle replacement policy. You must perform a song (of your choosing), for a panel of 4 physics professors who will decide whether or not your performance is worthy of new toys. Good luck!

Thu, Feb 8, 9:41 a.m. - Where is the physics exam?

The information about where to go for the exam and when was provided in lecture on Tuesday. If you missed lecture, you can also find it by clicking here or going to the PHYS 212 home page and clicking on the link near the top of the page that says click here to find out where to go and when for the first exam.

Wed, Feb 7, 5:30 p.m. - Where can we find answers to the concept tests?

Under solutions you'll find the Concept Tests posted. Click on "with solutions" and it will bring up a file that has the answers.

Sat, Jan 20, 6:00 p.m. - When and where are the physics help sessions on Sunday nights?

They are from 8-10 p.m. in Olin 264. If you need to find them again, the hours are listed on the bottom of the office hours page.
