Navigateone's "object-based" search engine technology aims to streamline the Web search process, making the massive amounts of information on the Web more tractable. The company's technology is targeted at the fast- growing mobile Internet market. Established in 1999, Navigateone has recently partnered with British Telecom to take the mobile Internet to a global mass market. Underlying the BT agreement is the company's belief that the mobile phone will be a major conduit for web searches in the near future. Avul Devani, managing director at Navigateone, asserts that the company's search technology provides the most effective platform for conducting Internet searches using a mobile phone. With its recent injection of more than $4 million from 3i, the company also has plans to extend services to PDAs and digital TV. In addition, Navigateone will expand the scope of its searches, incorporating travel, music, and sports markets into the company's initial focus, financial markets.
