Studying fluvial hydraulics and channel adjustments
Dr. Benjamin Hayes, Watershed Sciences and Engineering Program Director spent a beautiful afternnon with a group of geology students White Deer Creek, led by geology professor R. Craig Kochel's Geomorphology class (GEOL 320). The afternoon was spent learning about tools and techniques used to measure flow hydraulics in streams, channel bedforms, and how alluvial rivers adjust to changes in discharge of water and sediment.
Students used Sontek River Surveyor ADCP and Marsh-McBirney flow meter to measure velocity distributions.
