Rapid-Fire Project Assessments

A one semester project development course is VERY quick. Our goal is to have both our teams and projects selected by the start of the third week. To do that, we need a quick assessment of the potential projects.

You will be randomly assigned into a small team of 2 students with a simple team name such as Team A, B, C, and D. Each team will be randomly assigned two projects. These projects have a real client. The teams should contact the clients to get the necessary information. The team will present the project they investigate in class on next Monday (and Wednesday).

Note: These random teams are temporary and for initial investigation only. Final project teams will be assigned based on a survey of your interest after the initial project assessment (this assignment.)

First...

Your team should meet and come up a process how to investigate the given projects. One of the important aspect is to ask questions of your client to clarify your understanding of the project. Your team should have a plan to present your findings to the class next Monday and Wednesday. As you prepare for both project's presentations note that you must present one Project on Monday and the other one on Wednesday. Which presentation you present on Monday will be up to you but consider putting the presentation on Wednesday if you haven't met a client by Monday. Each team will have about 10 minutes to present their findings about the project they will have investigated.

Your team will be considered "experts" for the project and ready to convince the audience that the project is interesting, feasible, and why you want to work on the project.

Then...

For the projects your team is investigating, create the following in Google Slides (this will allow us to comment on the work by each other) and share the slides with the instructor and your classmates.

  • Overview. Give a brief summary of each project. Try to just keep it a couple of sentences if you can.
  • Two potential interesting points of this project
  • Two potential obstacles/challenges of this project

Submit your slide deck and any other supporting documents through the Google Classroom. Everyone should submit a copy for the team. This will make grading a bit easier. We will share the slides with the entire class so others will have the opportunity to evaluate the projects.

Finally...

On the second Monday (and Wednesday), we will give rapid fire presentations, 9-12 minutes per team, and then leave some time to comment and questions.
