Our Vision

Help Bucknell University achieve national distinction for excellence in education and scholarship in science and engineering by incorporating the Susquehanna River watershed as a teaching and research laboratory.

Integrate water and the river into the curriculum and across academic disciplines to enrich our intellectual environment and act as a catalyst for environmental and cultural progress in the Susquehanna region and beyond.

Our Mission

Promote excellence in: (1) teaching and learning, (2) scientific inquiry and research, and (3) community outreach and (4) university service by enriching the connection between the Bucknell community and the Susquehanna River watershed.

Our Approach

To advance our mission, the Watershed Sciences and Engineering program:

•  encourages interactive teaching and scholarship and development of close mentoring relationships throughout the curriculum and across campus,
•  provides a foundation for critical thinking, experiential learning, and personal growth,
•  supports the exploration of a variety of perspectives and diverse modes of discipline-based and inter-disciplinary inquiry,
•  inspires ethical exploration, civic engagement, social responsibility and global awareness,
•  creates scholarly teams of faculty that value undergraduate and graduate programs grounded in the liberal arts, sciences, and engineering.

Watershed Tools

The Watershed Sciences and Engineering Program at Bucknell University seeks to achieve national distinction for excellence in education and scholarship in science and engineering by incorporating the Susquehanna River watershed as a teaching and research laboratory.

Since 2006, it has been integrating water and the river into the curriculum and across academic disciplines in ways that enrich Bucknell's intellectual environment, promote sustainability and watershed stewardship, and enable the university to act as a catalyst for environmental and cultural progress in the mid-Atlantic region and beyond.
