Isaac5 REGER (Hans Jacob4, Antoni3, Hans Jacob2) was born August 19, 1782 in Hampshire Co, West Virginia, and died August 05, 1851 in Buckhannon, Upshur Co., West Virginia. He married Mary Magdaline BRAKE December 17, 1804 in Harrison Co., West Virginia, daughter of Jacob BRAKE and Mary SLAUGHTER. An image of tombstone of Isaac REGER.

Melinda is a descendent of Ruth Reger, daughter of Isaac Reger.

(4) 1850 US Census, Lewis Co., V / WV

Isaac Reger was born on the South Branch of the Potomac River in Virginia. The Indians named the South Branch, "Wappatomaka". This area is now Hardy Co., West Virginia. (1)

Isaac and his wife, Magdalana, settled on Hacker's Creek in 1830 (having moved there from the old homestead near Burnersville, or where Volga now stands). His father, (Hans) Jacob, came to the same section of the country in 1776 in Barbour Co. The family established the Reger Church in Volga, Upshur Co., West Virginia. He is listed as a member of the class list #3 for Pleasant Valley Methodist Church, Hacker's Creek, Buckhannon Circuit, Rev. W. Wilson, minister. In the 1851-55 list he is shown as "joined church in 1806, died triumphs of faith 1852," he was a member for 46 years. (3)

Isaac Reger's residence in the 1850 Census was Lewis Co., VA. This Census shows Isaac as age 67, born in VA and wife, Magdeline, age 66, born VA. They lived in close proximity to son, David and his family, Nelson Robinson and family, the Castos and the Posts. (4)

Isaac was a member of the Pleasant Valley Methodist Church 1806-1851. He is buried, along with his wife, at the Mt. Lebonan Methodist Church, north of Buckhannon, Upshur, West Virginia.

Isaac's gravestone shows: Isaac Reger, d. 5 Aug 1851, Age 69 years. (2)

Isaac's wife, Mary Magdeline (Brake) Reger's gravestone is broken and WPA readings were used for information. It shows: Mary M. Reger, d. 12 Mar 1866, Age 84 years, Wife of Isaac (2)

Isaac, like his older brothers, was known as a great hunter. Several of his hunting experiences are set down in the book, BORDER SETTLERS OF NORTHWESTERN VIRGINIA, by V. McWhorter, pgs. 305-307. (1)

Notes for Mary Magdaline BRAKE:

Mary Magdeline Brake was a Methodist. In the 1860 Upshur Co., West Virginia census, Mary was listed as age 76 and living in the home of her son, David Brake Reger.

Mary Magdeline Brake's gravestone (next to her husband's in Mt. Lebonan Meth. Church Cemetary near Buckhannon, Upshur, West Virginia) is broken. WPA readings were used for the information on it and I have used the WPA readings as my date of death on these records. (2)

Lydia Reger married Henry Jackson, an older brother of S. D. Jackson of Upshur County, and moved soon after her marriage to the forks of the Hughes River, in Ritchie County, where she died about the year 1872 or 1873**. (1)

**Actually, the facts show that Lydia (Reger) Jackson died Apr 29, 1877.

Lydia (Reger) and Henry J. Jackson appear on the 1850 U.S. Census in Ritchie County, Virginia (now W. Va.) on page 215, near to her sister, Maria and her husband Nimrod Scott and family.

1850 U.S. Census...listed in Lewis Co. (now Upsher Co.) West Virginia, Pg. 25 with family and mother and father, Isaac and Magdaline Reger.

David Brake Reger married Elizabeth Neely Feb. 22, 1843 and commenced housekeeping at his father's home on Hacker's Creek, where he continued to reside until the time of his death which occurred Apr. 12, 1906. David Brake Reger was married by Francis H. Reed per Marriage Rec., Barbour Co., S. Va. In 1843 Barbour Co. was in Virginia.

In the Upshur Co. V/WV Birth Records there is an Angela E. Reger, b. Mar 29, 1857 to David B. and Elizabeth Reger.

7. Maria REGER, b. January 16, 1824, Hampshire Co., West Virginia; d. January 11, 1920, Montrose, Lee Co., Iowa; m. Nimrod SCOTT.

In Maria Reger Scott's Obituary it states that Nimrod and Maria (Reger) Scott came to Iowa in 1854.

Information from the History of Upshur Co., W. Va. by W. B. Cutright, Pg. 556, says that, "Maria Reger married Nimrod Scott and moved to Iowa in the year 1851 or 1852, where she still resides, the only living member of the family."

Maria (Reger) and Nimrod Scott were living in Ritchie Co., Virginia/West Virginia in the 1850 Census. In the 1856 Iowa State Census they were in Wayne Co., Iowa.

In the 1850 U.S. Census of Ritchie Co., Va. (now W. Va.), Maria Reger's sister, Lydia and husband, Henry Jackson are enumerated on page 215 while Nimrod and Maria Scott are enumerated on page 216.

Henry Jackson and wife Lydia (Reger) came to Ritchie Co. in 1830 from Upshur Co., Va. They were among the first to arrive after the original settlers in Ritchie Co. They were in South Fork, Ritchie Co., Va. (now W. Va.). (2)

Nimrod Scott purchased land in Wayne Co., Iowa, South Fork Twp., SE 1/4, SW 1/4, Section 8, Twp., 69 N, Range 20W, 40 Acres in Aug 1855. (1)
