Attendance and Participation

An important part of the class is your active participation in class. If people do not show up or do other work, it degrades the quality of the class for everyone. Therefore, all students are expected to attend and actively participate in all class sessions. If you have to miss a class please contact the instructor at least 24 hours prior to the start of that class. You will be responsible for learning missed content on your own. No extensions to projects or assignments will be given due absences. In-class graded activities and quizzes cannot be made up if the class session is missed without sufficient notice.

Grading

Your instructor will make every effort to promptly return all graded work to you (usually by the next scheduled class). Course grades will be maintained on the course moodle site. If you would like to discuss your grade at any time, please make an appointment.
Component Grade
Activities/Homework/Quizzes 30%
Project 1 20%
Project 2 20%
Final Project 30%
* to pass the course you must pass each component separately.
Letter grades will then be assigned using the typical scale:
Score Grade
93 A
90-92 A-
87-89 B+
83-86 B
80-82 B-
77-79 C+
73-76 C
70-72 C-
60-69 D
<60 F
Bonus points may occasionally be available.
If you think you find a grading error, you may request a regrade. Regrade requests must be received no later than 72 hours after the assignment/exam is returned. It is possible for the new grade to be lower than the original grade. In all cases, the most recent grade is used (not the highest grade).

Group Grading

For group projects, we will utilize the CATME Peer Evaluation tool to compute individual grades. This tool measures five dimensions of team-member contributions. The system analyses the data, flags unusual rating patterns, and computes a grading factor for each individual. These grading factors typically range from 0.6 to 1.1 depending on the self and peer evaluations. Your instructor will compute an overall score for each project using a rubric and then multiply your personal grading factor to compute individual grades for each project. This encourages all group members to participate equally and corrects individual grades if there is unequal participation.

Late Work

Late work will not be accepted unless you receive permission from the instructor >24 hours before it is due.
