Project Planning and Engineering Design
Fall 2001

Summary of things to do:

• We will have some discussion about engineering ethics on November 28, December 3, and December 5:
  • NSPE Code of Ethics for Engineers
  • IEEE Code of Ethics

  • A Seven-Step Approach to Ethical Analysis, by Professor P. Aarne Vesilind
  • EE Ethics (PowerPoint)
• Submit documentation for PWM products, due as soon as possible.
• Demonstrate PWM circuit on PCB, due by December 11.
  (PCB design for frequency display unit?)
• Essay on books and films, due December 10.
• Senior design project proposals: Final version is due on Friday, December 14.
  Guidelines for proposals:
  • Imagine that your proposal is designed to convince an evaluator that your project is worthy of funding.
  • Clearly explain the problem that your project will address. Answer the question "why is this project important?".
  • Describe the approach that you will take, or perhaps describe several alternative approaches that you will evaluate. The purpose is to show that your project is feasible and to inspire confidence that your team will be successful.
  • Include a first draft of a "work plan" that lists the major tasks that will be performed and a timeline that sets a schedule for their accomplishment. The projects must be completed during the week of April 29, 2002.
  • Send Prof. Kozick an email message containing your project title and a one paragraph abstract that will be posted on the project web page. The abstract should also be included in your written proposal.
• Course evaluations will be performed on Friday, December 7.
• We will have a guest speaker on Monday, December 10:
